Anything to do in Binghamton?
Bringing my kid up for a visit to SUNY Binghamton and I have several hours to kill. I've never been there before so I'm wondering of there is anything interesting to do.

That is Northwestern New York. Jets Camp is right there, next to DOug's Fish Fries. ANd Canada.
Give us updates and post photosgraphs. Also, Pumberkahn is nearby, not working very hard and being elusive to authority. - |

He knows Stony Brook well but doesn't want to go there. Plus I kind of like the fact that Binghamton is in the middle of nowhere. He's going for mechanical engineering and the less distractions the better. He applied to Binghamton, RIT, VaTech and Maryland. Got accepted to Binghamton and RIT so far and hasn't heard back from the other two yet but I'm sure he'll get accepted. He'll make his decision by the end of the month. |

Rochester is big enough to keep busy but small enough to stay focused on school. RIT is a pretty good school as well! Plus he'd be a $99, 45 min flight from home - assuming you're in NYC area. |

He has already gone through the partying his ass off and pissing away my money in college stage.
He decided to change his major to engineering and I think he's looking to buckle down for a few years and actually learn something and get his degree. I think he's already narrowed it down to RIT and Binghamton. He can go wherever he wants. I just want him to stay focused and get his degree and a school like Binghamton or RIT may be just right for him. |

In the summer, Chenango Falls is pretty cool to take a dip in. I was up in Syracuse one summer completing my MBA and my wife was finishing her Master's and we drove all around looking for watering holes.
I also used to bumper hitch back from Binghapmton on Route 81 at 1 am after hockey games and pounding the Budweiser. We used to play Binghampton and Broome Community College back in the late 70s, early 80s and we were friendly with some of their players so we used to play, get tanked up, then hop in one of the 7 or 8 cars the hockey team drove down and literally half a dozen of us would ease our way out of the cars on completely ice and snow-covered Route 81 and hold onto the back of the bumper doing about 35 mph. Crazy now that I think back on it. That and cow tipping, but not much else. _ |

You could try to set the upstate NY mid-corridor beat off record. But know you're up against some fierce competition. Current record is something like 13 times in one hour. The kid died in his early twenties and looked 80 years old. His hands were like claws.

Uhhh... yeah... but i was thinking more along the line of just finding a bar where I could have something to eat with a couple of beers while I watch the Masters on my ipad. But thank for the suggestion. :D Last edited by crossfire; 04-05-2012 at 12:46 AM. |

I went to college with a kid from Binghamton. Not sure what to do there, but Jesus did we mercilessly make fun of him. Wonder where he is now. 'prolly CEO of a fortune 500.
RIT is a good school. I have family that went there, and the area is nice. Cold, though. |

Your dining options are probably a Chilis, local diner, and Burger Thing. Maybe even a Golden Corral if you're lucky.

Dunno which route you're taking but there's Cooperstown baseball HOF to go along with the Ommegang brewery. Thinking its about 90 minutes east of binghamton off of I-88. Could check out Oneonta if youre looking at Suny schools and up that way already. Lots of nice mom n pop Italian restaurants there.
Binghamton itself? Theres minor league baseball there this weekend. Mets vs Akron. Other than that I dunno. |
