The Ghosts of Drafts Past
I am going to the draft on Friday, got a couple of gift VIP tickets. Its my first time at the event and I am very excited. I did a little research of the Jets 2nd Round Draft History .... It is Brutal !!! Since 1995 ....
1995 Matt ODwyer OG Northwestern ( Pick number 1 in second round) 1996 Alex Van Dyke WR Nevada (Pick number 1 in second round) 1997 Rick Terry DT North Carolina (Pick number 1 in second round) 1998 Dorian Boose DE Washington ST 1999 Randy Thomas OG Miss St 2000 - NONE 2001 Lamont Jordan RB Maryland 2002 Jon McGraw S K-State 2003 Victor Hobson LB Michigan 2004 - NONE 2005 Mike Nugent K Ohio St, Justin Miller CB/KR Clemson 2006 Kellen Clemens QB Oregon 2007 David Harris LB Jets 2008 - NONE 2009 - NONE 2010 Vlad Ducasse OL UMASS 2011 - NONE No long term investment in any player. I would say only Thomas, Jordan, Hobson, and Miller were worth the paper there name was written on.... |

Odwyer and Randy Thomas were both very good Guards. I wouldnt mind having guys like that on this team right now.

Glad you stopped at 1995. Don't look any further back into the past. Though D Byrd in '89 was well on his way. And Gastineau in '79! But really, the Jets have been awful historically in Rd 2. Maybe that's why we have been trading that pick so often in recent years!

the past is nice to look at but irrelevant
since 2006 the Jets have been one of the BEST teams in the NFL at handling the annual draft Ferguson, Mangold, Revis, Harris, Sanchez, Greene, Keller, Slaussen, Wilson, McKnight, Connor, Wilkerson, Ellis, Powell, Kerley sure, nobody is perfect and Gholston was a huge bust and Vlad might be a second one... but overall, two hall of famers and multiple probowlers is a very good haul by NFL standards |

I didn't know you praise for selecting middling players. And I was being generous by not including Wilkerson, who had a very good rookie year, who needs to take a step forward this year before we can really call him a great pick. |

Not really 2008 - Jets trade up for Dustin Keller 2010 - Jets trade up for Mark Sanchez 2011 - Jets trade for Antonio Cromartie (Age 27) In fact the other Jets recent trades for higher draft picks Braylon Edwards (Age 26) Santonio Holmes (Age 25) Kris Jenkins (age 29) - Only exception. |

could have been worse, Mike they could have pissed away something like 60 picks since 2006 on Hall of Famer high rounders like Lawrence Maroney, Chad Jackson, Brandon Meriwether, Kareem Brown, Patrick Chung, Devin McCourty and Nate Solder |

A KICKER
The '05 draft has to go down as one of the biggest monuments to ineptitude. If it wasn't for Kerry Rhodes you can say the Jets would not have added one productive player as a result of that entire draft. |
