Report claims Jets were going to select DE/OLB Bruce Irvin if Seattle did not
Among the several teams that either planned to select Irvin or had him on a "short list" of first-round candidates for consideration: the New York Jets (No. 16), Chicago (19th), Green Bay (28th) and San Francisco (No. 30).

Less than five minutes after the Seahawks plucked Irvin, with a pick that surprised many pundits, the telephone rang in the Seattle "war room." On the other end was a Jets' official, good-naturedly cursing a Seahawks' counterpart for having chosen the prospect New York planned to grab one pick later.
I still don't buy this.

The Jets were supposedly turned off by Michael Floyd's off the field issues, and you're telling me they would've drafted a one dimensional passrusher with as many character issues as Bruce Irvin at #16, ahead of Coples and Ingram?

If so, think God for Seattle.

I agree, at least I really hope this is false. But this FO is known to surprise. And Irvin does have some nice measurables.

40 yard dash: 4.50 s
Arm length: 33 in
etc

you know what would have been awesome - having everyone criticize the jets for taking irvin over coples AND ingram.

if true, though, it goes to show you how the jets are paying attention to the physique of their pass rushers, and are trying to get guys who are like the giants rushers. i think ingram's arm length may limit his sacks and ability to cause fumbles.

I don't buy this at all. Why would the Jets want Irvin?

They already have a one dimensional pass rusher on the team in Maybin.

Irvin = Maybin

No way would the FO waste two roster spots on this team for OLBs who can't play on 1st and 2nd down.

Can you imagine this board if the Jets would have taken Irvin?

Ouch.

Yeah, notice this hasn't come from anyone connected to the NY media? This smells of Seattle spin about taking a a guy 1-2 rounds before expectation.

He's Aaron Maybin. We have that player already.

Yeah, I posted this few days ago to prove a point.

Thank God we didn't draft him (IMO), but who knows what this guy will become.

Its probably true. The jets took the full 10 minutes to make the pick. I think they wanted irvin. When he went, the took 9:30 to try and trade down. With no takers, coples was the next guy on their board.

I don't think this supports the theory. Jets were probably just doing their due diligence (as they should) seeing what trades they could get now that other GMs realized who the first 15 picks were.

True. Coples has more value than Ingram and the Jets wouldn't want another one dimensional pass rusher. That's not rational.

No chance. If Seattle went Coples, Jets would have picked Ingram.

Makes absolutely no sense.

Which is why I'm sure it's true.

Tony who is in charge of our draft forum now has never mentioned that and he has legit insider info with the team.
