Jets Tweets -Tuesday Night May 1
Jenny Vrentas @JennyVrentas
Rex said Tebow is in "outstanding" shape, and so is rest of team. Sanchez, Holmes have added muscle, he said. #nyj Rex thinks criticisms of Jets' draft are "hilarious," thinks team had "one heck of a draft." #nyj Rex said addition of Josh Brown will be "great competition" with Nick Folk for kicker spot. #nyj Rex Ryan also here. Re:report Jets lamented Sea snatching Bruce Irvin, says "not at 16," wouldn't have taken him before Coples/Hill. #nyj Maybin also here at event. Said "it's a good sign" for him Jets didn't draft OLB but not basing his expectations on who's around him. #nyj Pouha said his motto on D-line is that everyone is a starter at some point. Said of DeVito, "he's there when you need him." #nyj Pouha is one of players supporting "Match for Michael." Said he's trying to get leaner this year but will play at same weight of 330. #nyj Pettine called Coples explosive and raw. Did a "mental backflip" when he was on board at 16. He'll "come in and compete." #nyj Pettine said Rex has already been in more defensive meetings. They will "collaborate" on defensive play calling. #nyj Pettine said Jets defense's motto this spring is "One step faster." Said, for lack of better word, they were "dinosaur-ish" on unit. #nyj Mike Pettine and Jets at "Match for Michael" event, where 400 people pre-registered to be added to marrow donor program. |

Ryan denies report, says they wouldn't have taken Bruce Irvin at 16. Says Coples, Hill rated higher than Irvin. Sanchez here, not speaking |

DC Mike Pettine said the defensive motto for the season is, 'One step faster," which applies to everything -- on the field, in the weight room and in the classroom.

What the chances that Fat Chins Carlin, who was ripping the Jets apart on SNY's Loudmouths for looking to take Irvin at 16 will apologize?

Coples could have gone 9th. Ron Rivera stated on WFNZ that had Luke Kuechly not been available, he would have selected Quinton Coples and moved him to defensive tackle.

Agreed. He was probably around 220lbs. Good to hear that he's putting the work in the gym and probably the kitchen too (as far as manipulating diet). Hopefully we'll see more velocity on certain throws like the deep out. |

Im not sure how I feel about Sanchez bulking up. It is hard to judge without seeing him but based on what I have read it sounds like he is really bulked up. None of the elite QBs are overly muscle-bound.
I think sustaining flexibility is most important. Bigger chests and arms will make him stiffer and may make his throwing even worse. There are ways to improve shoulder strength without getting huge. Peyton, Eli, Brady, Rodgers, Romo are all in good shape but they are not ripped and overly muscular. I also hope he changes his equipment a little. Smaller shoulder pads and a looser jersey. If you don't think that makes a difference then I suggest you try on shoulder pads. And I hope Pouha doesn't lose weight b.c he doesn't need to. He carries it well. |

Sanchez was 227 at the combine when he came out, so it's not like he's added much at all.

It really depends where he's bulking up though. If it's balanced throughout the body, it won't be so bad. Your leg muscles, in conjunction with the rest of your body obviously, can really help you drive the ball into smaller windows. This can really help his accuracy. Not sure how much he's really bulked up, but he could refine his more important- quarterbacking- muscles (forearms, shoulders, lower legs, chest)

Usually guys "Combine Up". Some good examples are Gholston and Maybin. I think Sanchez' normal weight is somewhere in the 215-220 range. Sanchez weight and fitness is not the problem. He is in great shape. And I don't understand all this talk about his arm. He can make all the throws. Sanchez needs to work on the mental part of the game. Although it is nice that he takes care of himself. Hopefully that work-ethic rubs off on who it needs to rub off on. |
