Safety Josh Bush - 6th round pick - Interviewed On Sirius Radio

Pat & Tim just interviewed 6th round Safety Josh Bush

... sounds like a good kid ... reasonably sharp ... well mannered / gave respectful answers ...

... he said pretty much what you'd expect to hear / nothing earthshattering ... still nice to hear from the kid ...

- with rookie minicamp he loved just being around the guys & playing football again

- it was what he thought it would be like

- a lot of stuff thrown at you with a small learning curve and small window to digest it

pat and tim advised it's important how you handle yourself after a mental error ... to not make same mistake again ... and to learn when another guy makes a mistake to not make same one he just made

pat and tim also discussed how jets like to blitz the Will backer a lot and have SS blitz and trail him in ... mentioned how leonard had a great feel for that

-he said rex & co worked with them about getting a read from the tackle if it was going to be run or pass (believe this was still referring to coming in on the delayed blitz as opposed to dropping back in coverage)

- he said wake forest had a couple safety blitzes over the season .. but did not happen too often

- pat & tim asked him about covering TE's like guys in NE ... said he did well against good TE's at clemson & Notre Dame ... also has been able to work with fred davis on the redskins

- said he should be faster/quicker than the TE's ... this should allow him to cover them well ... when he sees their hips begin to move out of a break he should be able to pick it up and move there himself even quicker

- liked covering the slot wr's better than covering wr's on the outside

- played cb his freshman year

- played a lot of nickel covering the slot guy

- wonderful feeling/honor just to be in the NFL

pat & tim brought up stephen hill ... bush said he is just as you'd expect - tall & fast ... really catches your eye ... even though they weren't in pads to hit he knows from watching georgia tech that hill wants to & excels at blocking downfield

- doing all of the small little details in football makes a big difference

pat & tim asked him if the strength coach had hit him up at the end of camp ... he said not really ... he'd had some discussions with him earlier (pro day or when we worked him out ) and then they'd gone over some techniques on how to loosen his body up better/faster

- leading up to the draft he'd heard anything from 5th round to undrafted ... hearing his name called made him feel just like he was the 1st pick of the 1st round

- he discussed how S needs to know the entire D

- in camp they watched film of all of last season ... let the rookies get a chance to see how everyone moves

- he mentioned that the guys don't always move as the play is drawn up ... but by knowing each others games & being in sync they adjusted with each other on the fly out there

- he met laron landry in DC

- he's ready for special teams ... will do whatever it takes

pat and tim expect us to carry 6 cb's & 4 saftey's ... both bush & antonio allen to be backups behind landry & smith ... they were surprised allen didn't go sooner

... liked what i heard from the kid ... can't wait for full on training camp to see how he looks for real :cool: ...

I still expect them to bring back Jim Leonhard if he makes a full recovery

Wake kids are smart and they work hard. They even have a language requirement at Wake. (for example, other ACC schools -like Duke -do not.)
