Jets turn down Hard Knocks

Jets ruled out for Hard Knocks
Posted by Michael David Smith on May 11, 2012, 9:01 AM EDT

Despite the previous report that the Jets were still in the mix to be featured on Hard Knocks, it now appears that we won’t be hearing any Rex Ryan F-bombs on HBO this summer.

The Jets will not be the featured team on Hard Knocks this year, Bob Raissman of the New York Daily News reports.

It’s easy to see why HBO would want the Jets: They were highly entertaining when they were on the show two years ago, and the arrival of Tim Tebow has generated a new storyline featuring arguably the NFL’s most popular player. A return of the Jets would be appointment viewing that would drive fans to subscribe to HBO.

But it’s also easy to see why the Jets wouldn’t be interested: Ryan has acknowledged that there were problems in the locker room last year that he needs to fix this year, and the presence of cameras for a reality TV show would be much more likely to serve as a distraction than to enhance the locker room environment. From the Jets’ perspective, turning down HBO is the right call.

So if the Jets aren’t on the show, who will be? HBO says that hasn’t been decided yet. Which probably means no NFL coach has been convinced yet that allowing cameras into his team meetings is a good idea.

Glad to hear all the talk about Hard Knocks is finally put to rest. I loved when they were on Hard Knocks but they have been there/done that and need to put all their attention strictly on football without all of the other distractions.

Not the year for this. As a selfish fan I want it. But my better senses tell me it's bad for the team. This is a good thing.

I enjoyed it in 2010, but it's the last thing this team needs right now.

This.

I would have loved it it if it happened again, but I understand the team not wanting to feed the perception of the Jets only be concerned with media attention.

That being said, I think the NFL would benefit from every team having some Hard Knock-esque coverage of training camp as a matter of course. Whether its the local coverage or the NFL Network, I think we all could barely wait for the next Hard Knocks to come out when the Jets were on it. It fed us football junkies exactly what we wanted.

This is music to my ears.

However, I will only truly believe it when we get an official report of what team is getting Hard Knocks. Hopefully that team is not the Jets.

Doesn't this make it clear that Woody and company aren't ALL about selling tickets or whatever bull**** things some "fans" try to say?

Quite simply, if those were the number 1 goals as some people try to say then they would have done Hard Knocks.

Agree with the poster that said he's selfish and wants it...

Also agree that this is the worst possible year we could have it...
