A Taste of The NY JETS event
Was held last night at Cipriani on Wall St. Due the strike the event was cancelled last year but attendance seemed a lot lower than 2010. I counted 16 players plus Tannenbaum. Revis, Mangold, Wilkerson, Coples, Hill, DDavis, Maybin, McNight, Devito, Dixon, KWilson, Connor, Shillens, Bell, Folk, McElroy. Everyone signed autographs.
From previous events it seems like management always tries to push a few players- last time it was Sanchez & Homes. This time it was the rookie class. I was surpised Tebow wasn't there since he could have doubled the revenue. Also no Rex was a surprise. One big change was that a free white autograph football was given to everyone and all external merchandise was banned. I guess the players complained. Coples is huge. Hill will be a fan favorite- nice guy. |

How was the food?
No Tebow is a major cack tease. But I like that they are trying to control his exposure. |

The girlfriend and I were there last night. Stephen Hill also look so happy. Mangold appreciated my beard. The footballs filled with autographs were a nice touch and the food was pretty awesome. Good time.
Also spent $400 on raffle tickets and got skunked. :) |

I've been to every one of the Taste's annual event & I can tell you that players volunteer for this event, no one is "pushed" into attending by management. Just say "free fine food & drink" and guys are in. I talked with Randy Lange for a bit who said that Tebow is coming along nicely. It's hard to tell in what capacity he'll be utilized, but he spoke about Mark Brunell & how sitting 2nd chair to Sanchez was stigmatizing at best. Why label Tebow as the back-up QB when he can be more versatile & valuable as a ST player? And speaking of ST, Randy spoke with Coach Mike Westhoff last week who said he is already up & walking around a little bit. God bless him & let's "Win It For Westy" this season, it's his last. I got a few minutes in with my favorite NY Jet lifer, Mike Tannenbaum & had to ask two questions. 1) Which one of your draft picks this year do you think you will get the most "bang for the buck" out of? Without hesitation Mike replied, Stephen Hill. 2) Any chance of bringing back Braylon Edwards? Answer "NO chance." Mangold lost a lot weight & trimmed up the locks. He looks good. Darrelle was his usual charming self & dispelled any rumors of a "holdout." He said that the media, as usual, were twisting his words & making up stories to sell papers. The only thing on his mind right now is winning a SB. Besides Mangold and Revis, the list of Jets players at the Taste of the NFL included Yeremiah Bell, John Conner, Quinton Coples, Demario Davis, Mike DeVito, Marcus Dixon, Nick Folk, Stephen Hill, Aaron Maybin, Greg McElroy, Joe McKnight, Chaz Schilens, Muhammad Wilkerson and Kyle Wilson. I bought quite a few raffle tickets too & talk about crazy karma, but I sincerely believe that Mikey T. brought me a little luck in winning the Game Day in the Radio Broadcast Booth with Bob Wischusen. Wouldn't you know that was the prize bowl on Stephen Hill's table? BTW - Do you remember which player had the "Opening Day VIP Experience for Two" prize? I'd like to thank him too. ;) Last edited by Limolady; 06-01-2012 at 04:15 PM. |

LL. Thanks for the info.
Do you remember what Revis' exact quote was about the holdout? For example, "I will not hold out" or "I will be in training camp". Glad to hear Mangold has lost some weight. I saw some pics of him and he looked slimmer. Nice to have this confirmed. BTW. Thanks for not swearing into secrecy. |

(-; As for a direct quote, not really and I didn't really need one from Darrelle. It was part of a conversation, wait no, more of a in jest, ball bustin barbs I like to throw out and him responding in kind. Bottom line, the media is trying to create fake problems for players and the team where there are none. And if you look at the player list I posted, how many have been a Jet for more than 3 seasons? The swagger is back in the step, the smell of testosterone is back in the room and the magic of camp at Cortland will bring back the winds of forward progress that propels a good team to be a great one. Glad you enjoyed the read, thanks. |

Here's Mangold during his auction. His item was dinner with Mangold at Rao's, which I think went for like $9-10k.

This is a great event.
$275 gets you open bar, food from a host of top chefs, a full size white autograph football ($30 value) with Sharpie. More importantly, its gets you two full hours with all these players. With proceeds going to charity, I think this is a no-brainer for Jet Fans. It's my fourth time attending.
Shillens, DDAvis and Maybin stood out to me as being particularly friendly. Maybin told me he's faster this year despite the size. McElroy said the Tebow/Sachez thing is fun to watch. Tannenbaum is pumped about Hill. |

You do realize people not "on the board" are laughing at you, not with you, right? BTW - You are entitled to take my posts how ever you prefer, what you are not entitled to is telling others, in writing no less, how to take my posts and/or question my comments validity. Thanks and have a nice day. |

But if I can be TOTALLY selfish, I would have rather him reflexively answer COPLES. We just need a pass rush stud that badly. But I guess a stud WR for the next decade wouldn't be a bad consolation prize:P (I know, I know -- a quote in June has zero relevance on what happens in September. I'm just looking for as many positive signs as possible:O) |

My question was who was the most bang for the buck player, not who is his favorite or who's showing the most talent. |
