I wonder if Gronk is gonna go out clubbing tonight to celebrate. He did it after losing the Super Bowl bouncing up and down on his "injured" ankle. Seems like he'll do it tonight too.
Not sure what your point is. Are you claiming that it's unbelievable a player in his early 20s would go party at a team organized event after the biggest game in all of sport? Or are you claiming he was faking his ankle injury? Or are you claiming it would somehow be irresponsible if he celebrated the fact that he's now a multi millionaire and long time feature player on one of the best teams in the NFL? Please explain. It's confusing. |

So I guess the Gronkowski extension was a good move by the Patriots. Win-Win and with enough money going forward to get Hernandez and even Wes locked up for a few more years. Will be interesting to see who gets the next deal.

the one good thing about another of these flame threads attracting ALL the chowd troll moths is that I was able to add kjmass1 and redrew to my almost complete list of Jets Insider chowds now standing at SEVENTEEN.
A complete list is available to any other member of the JI community that wants to rid their viewing of virtually the entire active list of chowds, PM me and I'll send it to you Last edited by sg3; 06-08-2012 at 10:49 PM. |
I remember Miguel well from usenet days. His He was a reg in the Pats newsgroup. His cap data and analysis were the best. I was a reg (tutor) on usenet back then, both in the Jets and Pats NGs along with Kent, JDSal and oh so many others that I wonder what happened to all of them. SAR too, who used to torture youguys but mainly Dolphins fans.
WoW great nostalgia stuff. I was part of usernet group that eventually settled at KFFL. It had a very active Pats board, and a structure that had individual teams sections as well as a very active General board. Lots of good football talk. Very active Miami, Oakland, Dallas, and Denver boards, with lots of good cross talk between teams. Good stuff The Jets board there never was active. But slowly over the years it became less active with most people moving to Patsfans or Patriots planet.
Miguel was a frequent poster at KFFL, and when he was setting up his spread sheet he asked for suggestions. Later he made a deal at Patsfans.com to exclusively have his stuff there. In his preamble he thanks several people for helping him with his site, including me, though for the life of me I can't remember what I suggested that was worthy of the credit. ;) Things seemed a lot simpler in those days. |
Wes Welker has been there longer and has contributed more to that team than Gronkowski has so far. He is considered by some to be the best receiver in the NFL. Why wouldn't he be pissed? Especially considering Gronkowski's coming off an injury.
lol, who is this "some?" It certainly doesn't consist of you or anyone else on this board. Or 99% of NFL fans. Maybe some fringe Pats homers, but most would take Megatron, AJ, or Fitz over Welker any day. Some of you are just so annoyed that Gronk has been locked up that you are hoping the Pats end up overpaying Welker on the wrong side of 30 as a follow-up move. Don't hold your breath.
As much as I love Welker's production, toughness, and dependability, I'm not throwing a pity party for him. He was an UDFA who had one year of moderate success in Miami. When he finishes this season the Pats will have paid him close to $30MM for 6 years of work. He is now a national name, taking vacations with Gisselle and Brady, with the ability to turn down big money endorsement deals. IF this is his last season with the Pats, I will wish him the best.
The guy turned down 2 years 8mill per full guaranteed when he was a 31 YO WR. The contract the pats gave him 5 years ago was met with laughter on this board. It is not the Patriots fault that Welker developed late in his career. he could have rolled the dice in Miami and stayed until he was a FA the next year and made more money, he decided to take the security (as gronk just did,) rather than maximize his earnings potential. After this year when he is 32, some team may give him 3 years and 24 but it won't be the pats. |
He'd make a good Jet.
BTW, Who is the Jet's slot reciever?
He would make a good receiver on any team. With Holmes and Hill on the outside, Welker would fill a huge need in 2013. But I think the Jets would have to offer significantly more for him to leave the comfort of the NE offense. But money talks in the NFL. Unlike the pats the jets WRs are younger and they can afford to have an older guy on the team. The pats receivers in 2013 will all be 31 and above and they will need an infusion of youth. |

1) Pats will franchise Welker for the next 2 years and then let him go. 2) Pats will not give Hernandez a long term deal. |

Interesting detail:
If pats don't pick up $10 mil option bonus in '16 , he becomes a free agent. |

Probably could save some $$$ by signing him up for an extra 2 or 3 years now. You have inside info or just speculating based on some feeling you have? |

(not about the blocking tho) they'll lock him up long term next year, for about 60-65% of what they gave Gronk. Hernandez is more of a hybrid WR than a pure TE. There's a place for that on this team. |

Do you really think Hernandez and his agent would accept 60% of Gronk's contract? Highly doubtful. I think the Pats put a "take it or leave it" offer on the table for Hernandez, and he ends up leaving. Love the guy's versatility, but I cringe everytime he is running in the open field with the football. He's a turn-over machine waiting to happen. |

I think Aaron is valued by BB for his versatility as a TE,RB,WR type, and we all know how BB LOVES versatility in his players.

Ultimately it means less money for the other Patriot holes that need filling.
