Zimmerman's wife arrested, accused of perjury
Zimmerman's wife arrested, accused of perjury

From Vivian Kuo, CNN

updated 4:45 PM EDT, Tue June 12, 2012

(CNN) -- George Zimmerman's wife was arrested Tuesday afternoon for allegedly lying at his bond hearing about the couple's finances.

Shellie N. Zimmerman, 25, faces a perjury charge, according to Jackie Barnard, spokeswoman for the State Attorney's office for the Fourth Judicial District of Florida.

Shellie Zimmernan will be arraigned July 31, according to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office. She was being held on a $1,000 bond.

Her husband, 28, is accused in the February shooting death of Trayvon Martin, 17, in Sanford.

George Zimmerman had been free on bond for weeks until June 3, when he turned himself in to authorities in Seminole County.

In April, Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder after the case was referred to a state attorney for a review. He was released from custody later that month after posting bail.

But on June 1, Seminole County Judge Kenneth Lester Jr. ordered Zimmerman back to jail, accusing the suspect of not being truthful about how much money he had access to when his bond was set months earlier.

At the time, his wife told the court under oath that the family was indigent. But prosecutors alleged that Zimmerman had $135,000.

Pretty stupid to lie in a case that's under such an intense national microscope...from what I understand the money came in from people donating to his defense fund...perhaps it wasn't legally "theirs" to claim as personal assets? Either way, their attorneys are idiots for letting that happen.

Without judging his guilt or innocence, his "camp" seems to lack a cohesive, unified strategy...certainly his atty plays into that.

Have no idea of the dialogue in court but is there a possibilty of fund allocation?
Judge: : "How much money do you have"?
Zim's wife: "Maybe $15K"
Judge : "OK".
Judge forgeting to ask: "Anything on a website fund?"
Is the website fund what exactly? His or a defense fund? Is a defense fund his or to defend. If defend how can it be used for bail? Then there is no defense money.
Anyway, it looks like harrassment by the gov. A jury will give the judge and the prosecutor the finger.

Um no.
Records show Shellie Zimmerman in the days before the hearing transferred $74,000 in eight smaller amounts ranging from $7,500 to $9,990, from her husband's credit union account to hers, according to an arrest affidavit. It also shows that $47,000 was transferred from George Zimmerman's account to his sister's in the days before the bond hearing.
What she did is called structuring as well, notice she stayed under 10k for each deposit. Zimmerman and his wife are not very bright to say the least.

All good questions, all ones I too have wondered about (i.e. Defense Fund and how it works in relation to bail and ownership)
