You look European

Those were the words said to me by some random male staffer at work today. Went so far as to say I looked a bit Polish. What's the takeaway message here?

It's a compliment - connotates a well-kempt clean cut appearance with less informal garments cut more to the tailored fit

For the most part to the world, Americans are viewed as slobs who dress too casually

Best case scenario, but highly unlikely.

I was wearing scrubs.
Wait. I thought you was all retired an' junk?
I am, this happened in the course of my new career, nursing assistant.

WLF!?! :steamin:

I work 20+ years on Rikers and nary once get confused for that and here I am a few weeks wearing white scrubs and I'm dancing to Ray of Light by Madonna?

No. No, I refuse to believe that.

I dunno....I can understand the European part perhaps being a compliment - maybe alluding to the fact that he's high fashion.

But the Polish part? With apologies to all my handsome Polish brothers (no homo), but I'm thinking that can't be a flattering reference.

You look European == you appear to be somewhat cultured

You look Polish == you have a big head and it's somewhat misshapen, and I suspect inbreeding

Kind of a backhanded compliment if you ask me. Which you didn't.

"You look European" - set you up with a breaking ball, you probably didn't feel too bad.

"Went so far as to say I looked a bit Polish." - then the fastball to the head

1. You look like you don't belong.

2. You look dumb.

I would punch him in the face tomorrow. And post pics.

Were you wearing a beret or a pony tail? Capris perhaps? Black knee socks with sandals?

Wait...Polish? Did he mention the Polish part before or after you raised your eyebrow upon said statement/compliment. Did your monocle fall out when you raised your eyebrow?

Eastern European isn't really "European".

It's kind of like calling a Puerto Rican a "Spaniard".
