Agree about Star Wars, the prequels were awful.

_
Honest truth, this usms it all up, the entire debate.

Remake it, and it's brilliant, and we're ALL ok with it.

Remake it, and it's average...or worse (a real possabillity tbqh), and folks like me and Untouch who are against it are more against it, and you join us Stokesy.

Like so many things, it all depends on the end result. Promise me an equal to the origianl, quality wise, acting wise, with no stupid modern-day add ons or extra theme bull**** to suit "today's audience" bloah blah, and I'll be tickled pick.

Prooduce a "Promethius", which while ok, is tarnished by being nowhere near as good as what it tries to be and is related to.....and all I get is dissapointment.
The Star Wars movies are sci-fi/fantasy. So by using your logic, would you be in favor of someone taking a stab at remaking the first film or The Empire Strikes Back?

Lucas took a shot with the prequels with newer and more advanced technology, and they sucked ass and will never hold a candle to the original trilogy.

Newer isn't always better.
Imagine if they remade Jaws just for the fx.
You don't think the new Batman franchise isn't 1000X better than the one starring Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer and George Clooney? Heath Ledger versus Jack as The Joker? Much darker, much more serious, better cinematography. Don't get me wrong, I liked the earlier versions, but the new franchise blows them away.

You don't think the newest Bond franchise isn't better (darker, more serious) than almost all of the previous Bonds (other than Connery--and his were still a bit campy). Casino Royale WAS a remake.

One of my favorite movies as a kid was The Omega Man with Charlton Heston--but it's extremely dated. I Am Legend was a very solid remake.

Look, I loved Blade Runner, but doing a remake doesn't mean you have to throw out your DVD of the Ridley Scott/Harrison Ford version--neither of which, btw, even liked the way it was originally released--they were extremely vocal in their displeasure with the way the producers recut it to satisfy Hollywood.

And as much as I liked the original Total Recall, I think the new Colin Farrell version is going to be great.

Just saying, I wouldn't mind seeing a newer take on Blade Runner. You don't have to see it, you know.

New bond not even close to connery bond... But better than all others.

Gonna jump in on this one.

A REMAKE OF STARSHIP TROOPERS.

One authentic to the novel, right down to the "Fascist, Right Wing" themes....themes such as duty, personal responsibility, effective discipline and punishment, etc.

OH, and dudes in Marauder Powered Armor suits wreaking havoc on Bugs and Skinnies.

It could be the greatest movie ever made.
