Maybe Sci-Fi isn't for them the same way gangsters ins't for me.

Hating the Matrix Sequels, ok, but the first one? Hating that it was overplayed maybe, that I'd get.

But outright hate?

Wow.
Pay them no never mind Fist, that's just crazy talk.

The original Matrix is an all-time ALL-TIME great.

And I loved Inception, and I can understand how some folks didn't love it--but HATE IT?

Crazy.

It's a funny character, with moments of the funny...

But the black empowerment message that gets shoved down my throat every time I watch one makes me want to yak...

I fully understand that's his target audience so it's my own fault...

Not a remake, supposedly it's a prequel/sequel set in the same universe. Pretty much like how Prometheus is set within the Alien universe.

I'm not in favor if it really, but Ridley Scott is directing and supposedly both David Peoples and Hampton Fancher (the original writers on Blade Runner) are set to return.

What the hell, I'll see it.

Your gonna taste the rainbow! I find it hard to say movies like this because it just isn't directed to me. Same thing goes for those who hate ET. It is a kids movie. Yeah I hated it as a kid but now OK it just isn't directed at me. Same goes for the Transformers and any other film based on my childhood super hero fantasies. They just aren't going to live up to what they where in my mind. You can't make these movies and expect people out side that culture or age to like them.

For that matter I'm guessing the people saying Star Wars where either too old when it 1st came out or weren't born. When movies like War Games, Close Encounters and Tron where cutting edge Star Wars was just well above it's time frame.

Great thread. My contribution is Casino. Everyone loved it. I thought it was just a lot of rehashed mob sh1t. Already seen DeNiro and Pesci do that stuff to death. Yawn.

Although there are several scenes which I like, generally, I agree. Very derivative. Plus, Sharon Stone is a disaster in the flick. Thought it was a travesty that she received an Oscar nomination.

I agree with many already listed ... Avatar, especially. So bad.

But my all-time, "I just don't get the hype, what makes this so great??" movie is Field of Dreams. I love baseball, too. But this movie puts me to sleep - I wish people would stop equating "boring" with "romantic". And this is the only time I've ever heard anyone ask to "have a catch." Ever. I've coached Little League for 20 years - I've been to well over 200 professional games, I used to be a softball junkie. Not once has anyone ever asked to "have a catch." This movie sucks.

My favorite movie of all time.

Nothing to do with romanticism.

Lol - well, at least I got the category right. I know, for every person I meet that doesn't like it, I meet 10 who absolutely love it.

What is it that you like so much? (I'm genuinely curious) - I've watched it probably 6 times over the years - each time saying to myself, "just give it a chance, maybe you missed something." Nope. Does have something to do with your father, perhaps? I know several people who liked it have told me it reminds them of their dad and a chance at redemption, that kind of thing. Thoughts?

It's two things.

It reminds me of dead loved ones and the possiblity of ever seeing them again.

And I find the story almost ethereal, the speech by James Earl jones, seeing the lights on the field the first time, the Moonlight Graham sacrifice--all of them really hit me.

when I was watching that movie and the scene came on about playing catch with his Dad, it's struck me like a lightning bolt that this guys dream of having a catch with his Dad, of re-connecting with him, was something I would never feel because I had a Dad who was there for me every step of the way, and who (cliche alert) played catch me me every single time I wanted to.

In that split second I was overcome with the feeling of how lucky I was and I promised myself to be that kind of father, to simply be there for my kids when they needed me. and I promised to let my Dad know how grateful I was for everything he did for me.

all the other baseball stuff was kind of corny to me but that scene sealed it for me...and the way Costner delivered the line with a very slight crack in his voice was perfect.

Now when I see the scene, with my Dad being gone...all I can think of is yes, I'd love one more game of catch.

Exactly, one of the best delivered lines ever.

That's how I feel about my wife.

Not a catch, but the symbolism and saying, "yes, I'd love to do that [whatever--anything] one more time".
