KRL Camp Notes (7/28/12)

Cortland Notes

- The practice area is behind the SUNY Cortland football stadium

- The practice area is two full length fields and one mini (30 yd) field all
running parallel. Fencing runs along three sides so you can get a good
vantage point

- All fields are grass but are so well kept they look like turf

- Jets Fest and the souvenir shop is there

General Notes

- Practice ran 2 hours and 20 minutes

- Players were in shorts and shells

- For the first time since Mangini music was played during the initial warm
up phase of practice

- Demario Davis still on the side working with trainers but no wrap on his
hamstring (good sign?)

- Otah on the side working with training staff

- Landry was dressed and practiced

- At 9 a.m. for over an hour it poured (where was Noah and the Ark)

- Coach Lal (WR) is a stickler for precise routes always working with the
group during the technique portions of practice. Also he uses the JUGS
machine making the WR's "blind turn" and catch balls at random

- Coach Dunbar (DLine) was a HUGE pickup. He was teaching the DL
techniques that I never saw Carrier teach them. First of all he's very big on
each DLineman attacking the "edges" of the OLineman they are facing. By
attacking the OL on their left or right edge you can knock them off balance
and by getting "skinny" get up field and get the QB

- The tempo of the offense is relentless as soon as the play is over the next
play is already called and we're ready to run it. The days of wasting time
outs because the personnel is wrong or time is running out on the play clock
are over

Player Notes

The rain affected practice but the players that stood out were:

- Sanchez was sharp today, the increased speed of the offense plays into his
strength. Which is the faster and the quicker he reacts the sharper he is

- The RB's were impressive Greene, McKnight and Powell

- The TE's were impressive Keller & Cumberland

- The WR's were impressive Hill & Schilens. The thing that stands out about
Hill is he plays very physical for a young WR. Even without pads you can
see it also when he went against Revis he didn't back down

- On defense out of the young safeties Tracy Wilson stood out. Bush and
Allen need to learn when to turn and make a play on the ball not just look at
the TE

- Lankster looked good in coverage as the 4th CB

- Bell & Landry looked much better in their coverage and footwork than what
has been reported

- Finally can the media stop with the "Tebowmania" nonsense!!! I'm glad
he's part of the team and he'll bring a playmaking element to the offense,
but there is no QB controversy!!! He has trouble releasing the ball when he
sees an exotic coverage it got so bad fans were yelling at him to "throw the
ball Tebow"

Read in the other thread about Lancaster having a good day....is he strictly a CB or can he be a "coverage type" safety? Tough to find a draft scouting report on him, but he is 5'9 190, so not exactly safety height.

Seems like Hill really plays fast and uses his size. I don't think the whole "route tree" thing will be a big deal for him....he shouldn't be running too many different things or making too many sight adjustments at the line. He should be using his size speed to create some space and putting sanchez in position to take a shot with him.

Love to see the new tempo of the offense, schottys slow play calling was a HUGE detriment to our team in the past.

Before I comment on what you said thank you for the update and your camp notes are a tradition I look forward to every year.

I'm really getting excited about the uptempo practice that the offense seems to be forcing on the defense since that really is what Sanchez excelled at all his career.

Was the heckling of Tebow really as bad as it sounded in the other camp updates?

Did Maybin look bigger or stronger? Who played OLB with the first team?

To answer a few questions:

- To me Lankster is a total CB but you never know what Rex will try

- I forgot to mention Maybin, he played well today and "sacked" Tebow
at least once

- The "razzing" of Tebow wasn't that nasty

The most important thing that happened today was the "jeering" of Tebow.
Not because of what it will do to him or the team but what it will do to the
media. They came up to Cortland with one thing in mind "create a QB
controversy" and report how much of a "circus" Jet camp was. Well now
with fans voicing their displeasure with Tebow's play they'll have to leave
or cover the team properly. Finally to be honest if Tebow wasn't going to
be used as a total offensive weapon he would be in a fight for the #2
spot. Because just as a pure QB McElroy is far more advanced than Tebow
is

This is critical because it also means everyone has drilled into thier heads what to do! We were the 27th worst team for penalized yards last year, 986 basically negated all Keller's gains.

ESPN is at Jets camp all next week, so hopefully we'll see that pan out. Guaranteed they're going to drive this thing into the ground well after it's already dead though.

Thanks for the reports, I look forward to the KRL reports every year as the 'official' end of the offseason

Agree with all of that. IF this trend continues the whole QB controversy that the media is writing about will be squashed.
