What a letdown. Otah from a few years ago would have returned this line to '08/'09 form.
Glad the Jets are parting though. No need in wasting a roster spot on a guy hasn't been in physical shape in a couple of years and doesn't appear to have the necessary heart to get back. Edit: Now I don't know what to think. |

Source: Jets won't be keeping OT Jeff Otah
Source: Jets won't be keeping OT Jeff Otah
BY Manish Mehta The Daily News has learned that the Jets won't be keeping offensive tackle Jeff Otah. The Jets acquired Otah on a conditional basis in a trade with the Panthers last week. Per terms of the trade, Otah, who has played only four games during the past two seasons due to knee issues, needed to pass a physical within seven days of him reporting to the team. The Jets were going to give up a conditional seventh-round pick for Otah. The deadline to pass that physical was Tuesday. Otah was expected to provide competition for the much maligned Wayne Hunter for the starting right tackle job. Now, it appears that Hunter will be the starter at the start of the season. |

Glad I didn't get too excited about this trade. Key to Jets fandom is managing expectations!

There will still be camp cuts, cap management cuts. I'm not all that concerned about Hunter as Sparano uses a lot of 2 TE sets anyways.

Time to call Vernon Carey.
Carey might not be much better at pass blocking than Hunter, but he's a road-grader who can help return this team to a ground-and-pound success. |

On the bright side, we will probably not stay pat at the position with late cuts etc. Either way it is unlikely the OL will be as bad as it was last season with all the injuries and lockout-shortened training camp. Consider the following:
On the other hand it sounds like Mangold and Schlauderaff are looking good in camp at C, Vlad/Slauson are competing at LG, and Hunter/Howard are competing at ORT. With a simpler scheme that emphasizes man-to-man and protecting the QB we could be better with the same roster. We need to stay healthy. |

Disappointing, but it didn't hurt to take a look at him. Hopefully Hunter shapes up (not holding my breath) or they find someone else.

I have a feeling Sparano wants no part of carey. If Sparano liked carey, he would be here already.
The fact that sparano has not brought him in speaks volumes especially when wayne hunter is the guy at the position. |
