Seriously, the Pats were 13-3 last season and the Jets were a friggn' mediorce 8-8 team and missed the playoffs.

Please explain to me how the Jets, with marginal improvements over the off-season, are going to make up 5 games in the AFCE standings?

The Jets are going to win the AFCE? Go have another glas of green kool aid.

hmm IDK. I think the 2001 cast when we sill had Vinny, Glenn, and Green was better but this is close. Herm was a failure IMO after his 1st year doing nothing with that team it was stacked IMO.

Brady, Gronk, Hernandez, Wilfork, Mayo, and Welker

Mangold, Revis, Wilkerson, Harris, Pouha, Brick

Could be the dumbest post (and I have read alot of DWC's posts) ever uttered on JI.

Do you really want to compare NFL game-changers with a bunch of non-playmakers?

Please cite 3 or 4 games that Mangold, Revis, Wilkerson, Harris, Pouha, Brick have won for the Jets?

J. Leonhard
D. Lowery
D. Coleman

Add:

M. Wilkerson
Q. Coples
M. Dixon
K. Ellis
A. Maybin
D. Davis
R. Sapp
L. Landry
Y. Bell
E. Lankster

They've gotten better (and faster) in every positional group. Rex finally has the players that he needs to operate his scheme.
D-Line is just as talented, if not more. They got younger, faster, and more versatile.
Linebackers corp is even more deep, and better pass rushing ability
Cornerback is a wash
Safety is a solid improvement. Leonhard and Pool are good, not great players and were injury-prone too. But Landry and Bell are pro-bowl caliber players.
When the Jets signed Taylor, Rex instantly projected him getting 12 sacks,Westerman was Raw like some of the unknown,B.Pool was a often injuried star if he stays healthy,Leonard the hard nosed qb of defense,Shawn Ellis, who most people hope Wilkersons career will at least match,T .Pryce just had a nose for getting to the qb. Lowery and Coleman both had decent track records. This team also started with a all-pro DT in Kris Jenkins
The group of 2012 has talent, but who leads this group. If the most talented team won every year, the Redskins would have 5 Super Bowls. Who leads this group, not Y.Bell, not Landry, wilkerson could have a 2nd yr. slump,Maybin who did nothing once teams got used to him,has added some weight and is exploiting a Tony Stuporano offense. Wait to a real pass rusher plays against the new Jets offense.
For one year I would believe in the 2010 defense ,before I buy into the 2012

Last I checked there is no carry-over from last year's records.

0-0 for each team tells me they're tied up.

I'm a season ticket holder, a huge Jets fan, and I post here a LOT. But I don't think I'll ever spend as much time thinking about this football team as you do!

Your fascination and obsession with the New York Jets is amazing.

In my opinion, last year's team was one of our best rosters ever, and look what happened to them.

SAR ... Hate to say this .. But you made an incorrect statement or two.

No. 1 Dunbar was not with the team last year ... He is a HUGE addition.

No. 2 We have 3 quality RBs ... Not amazing .. But quality.

I wish. If this team had that kind of gumption, that sense of urgency we'd have won in Pittsburgh and had a fun time in the Super Bowl.

I guess where we differ is that you see a talented team that had some bad breaks and I see an average team that overachieved for awhile getting an overrdue dose of reality. Maybe we're better on D, but we are nowhere on O and you need to have lengthy drives and score points to win in today's NFL.

SAR I
perhaps..I saw what happened in 2011 as a sense of entitlement and the offensive coordinator trying even harder to be cute. They seemed too relaxed almost as if they were going back to the playoffs automatically.

The reduction of Schotty alone will lead to a far improved offense in of itself. I think we will see the full potential of our offense this year. With that said, I don't believe this offense to be a top 10 offense by any means, however with our defense we really don't need a top 10 offense. If we can linger within 14 - 17 ranked offense, and our defense ranks top 5 we are in tremendous shape. Key stat to look our for is turnover differential and average TOP.

If the Jets control the ball and sustain drives as they plan to, we are in for a real treat this year.

I know where you stand on our defense in 2009 and especially 2010 AFCCG, but I really believe if our offense can sustain drives, and take just a bit of pressure off of our D we are SB bound. Yeah I said it, SB bound.

We know what we have in our defense. Our hopes of ever winning a SB depends solely on our offense helping win TOP and sustaining long drives.

How can u say after Greene there is any quality? Its all unproven. I mean, i really hope Gannaway pans out, McKnight steps into a new role, or Powell steps up and grabs the spot, but seriously man, those are all a lot of if's.

Shonn Greene is a one dimensional back. He's good, very good, but hes not a 3 down, multiple threat kind of guy.

Not the way i was hoping to start the rededication of the G&P. Its all going to put a lot of pressure on Sanchez to throw the Jets out of 3rd and longs.

Look man,

The Jets dont need to make up 5 games to make the post season, and the Jets have been 1 game away from the SB in the past 5 years.

Take your hall of fame QB and shove it.
You can deny it all you want, but you and i know both who the threat in the division comes from.

+1

And there are ifs everywhere. I don't see how you can proclaim this the most talented Jets team in 30 years when you are dependent upon tremendous leaps from what we've seen thus far (or not seen at all) from all or most of these players:

Sanchez
Hill
Coples
McKnight/Powell
Wilkerson
Hunter
Maybin
Whoever plays FS

These guys might show up this year...or they could be what we saw in 2011. Or they could be rookies who don't make a lot of waves out the gate. But every position on this team has an unknown - you can't compare that to teams you know are built and ready for playoff runs.

The 1986 team that started off 10-1 would be hard to beat, especially if anyone
other than Joe Walton coached it.
