I think actually it works the other way around...you can't be a tomboy until AFTER you hit puberty. Cuz before puberty everyone's kind of androgynous. That's why in kids sports you have mixed boys and girls teams at the younger ages and then as they approach 11, 12, 13 they separate.

It's weird because I had my cousins that would call me a tomboy so that's what they labeled me. Once I hit 13 and puberty started kicking in I stopped playing video games, fighting with them, and dressing more girly. I never stopped like sports though, I loved them since I was a little girl. That's what my father and daughter time.
However, I've always had more guy friends, some of them just see me as one of the guys.
