Favorite Carpenters Song, B****es?

There was like, what, six of them? And they were all written by song writing teams, not actually the Carpenters themselves. And they were kind of popsy/hooky but also pretty schmaltzy and had these dated 70s soft rock horn accompaniments.

Which only adds up to how good a vocalist Karen Carpenter was. Cuz the songs themselves, with almost anyone else singing them, were mostly forgettable. The girl had amazing pitch...almost perfect...Emilou Harris, Allison Krauss, I can't think of too many others in her ballpark.

(Southpark you won't know any of this **** so pm me for some linx.)

They are re-releasing some of their greatest hits in September.

They are going to put Karen's picture on the side of the CD case.

Too soon?

Meeting other posters is ghey, but starting a thread about Carpenters isn't?

6 hits? All written by others? Not hits as sung by others? 70s horn arrangements in songs released in the 70s dated?

Mods please move to the Dilettantes forum

Never bought a Carpenters disc but always liked Hurtin Each Other (a hit for The Guess Who) Superstar and In a singalong way Top of the world

I never got the allure of their music. Especially during that era (amidst all the phenomenal rock of the 70s), they sounded like Muzak to me, or music designed for parents, rather than us young folk.

At least karen was a ballsy drummer. LOL.

Am I to assume that you didn't appreciate the magic of Captain and Tenille?

You are correct. sir. Just never dug any of that "easy listening" bubblegum.

Any time I saw The Carpenters on TV, all I could think about was punching Richard out. (I did want to bang Toni Tennille, though. Before she got chunky.) The guy really bothered me, but not as much as Karen's drum kit.

Well yeah, not to break out at a keg and bong party in 8th grade, but listen to the lyrics and the voice, great for what they are presenting. Girl died way to young, WOJB chokes me up every time.

EXACTLY. If you are a Carpenters fan (or not) and have not listened to the covers album "If I were a Carpenter" that came out in the 90's, its worth a listen.

No offense meant to anyone who likes the duo. Just not for me on any level.
