Consistency.

One play does not make or break.

He has shown the ability to use other moves. Now he needs to build upon that.

Wouldn't you say it's difficult to be consistent when you're playing 15 snaps a game?

Unrelated... I hate being forced to watch a 20 second commercial for a 30 second video. It drives me fuking crazy.

Wake is a 3 down OLB, listed at 258lbs. Maybin is a pure pass rusher, and significantly lighter at 235-245lbs.

Wake and Maybin both look like they were shot out of a cannon and both were recruited by Penn State to pretty much fill the same rolls, to get after the QB. We all know that Wake is already considered one of the top pass rushers in the game, will Maybin soon join him?
Doubt it, but lets see what he can do now that he's put on some weight.

Supposedly Maybin is up to a little over 250.

He posted a pic on twitter of him on a scale a few weeks ago.

In 2011 he got the playing time he deserved. He needs to earn more snaps. Based on what he has been doing in camp, I think he is on his way to doing that. But Rex isn't going to put him out there full-time if he gets killed in the run game.

Yeah, that sucks. Luckily I knew the play the poster was referring to so I didn't even watch it.

Has sparanos o-line stopped anybody in practice? Everyday I see 6-8 sacks.Plus Wake is much stronger driving tackles back.Considering Sparanos o-line gave up over 50 sacks last year, I have to believe it is Sparanos coaching

Maybin does has some swim and spin moves as part of his rush arsenal. He also has some 18-20 lbs of lean muscle, that he's added to the 228 lb frame he played with last year. I recently heard that during TC practices, that Maybin is now at 246 lbs.

In an in depth interview that Eric Allen had with Mike Pettine at the Jets website during the OTA-minicamp offseason, Pettine mentioned that Maybin was a step faster then what he was during the 2011 season. When I heard that my eyes widened...and so did EA's. So EA jumped on that, and asked Pettine to confirm, that he had heard that correctly. And Pettine did...and repeated that Maybin was faster.

What that meant to me...and probably EA...was that Maybin put on pure muscle and increased his power. And from that combination he gained more speed. A bigger...stronger...faster Maybin means he'll be a more effective pass rusher.

With that explosive first step, Maybin always gets into the backfield. But no longer will Maybin be easily steered to the side by a pass blocker. And moved around to the back of the QBs...and then knocked down to the ground. As he frequently was last year. With that little extra speed(that's all this guy needs!) and more power, Maybin will be more effective in disengaging from pass protectors, and maintaining a more straight direct line to the QB. This result won't happen on every single rush(or Maybin would have 100 sacks and 1000 pressures) but he will be more successful in creating his own sacks. And increase his number of pressures even more. As opposed to last year...when most of his sacks/pressures were due to extensive coverage by the secondary.

And this year...when the secondary does cover extensively...the bigger stronger faster Maybin will get even more sacks and pressures.

I really feel strongly that 10+ sacks...and tons of pressures...is what Maybin can contribute this year.

Wake is a football player while Maybin is more of an athlete.

Have you actually been "seeing" this or are you simply relying on the practice reports/tweets for your conclusion?

If so, that's quite presumptuous.

Truthfully maynins instincts as an OLB don't look great so far. He badly missed containment on one run that got cut back right to where he should have been.

The thing is, and i know 75% of this board hates pace and BT, but we don't need maybin at OLB this year. He needs to continue to be a situational player and work on OLB for next year....which he should be able to do.

He can become a very strong outside pass rusher during obvious passing situations, but I'm not sure if he'll have enough experience/size to play the run as a 3 down player. I'll take a pass rushing specialist in stride though.
