Jets Have Interception Filled Practice 08/15

Yay.

http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/201...on-filled.html

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Jets coach Rex Ryan guessed there were more interceptions on the practice field today than in any other practice this year.

Quarterback Mark Sanchez was picked off three times in 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 drills, while back-up Tim Tebow was picked off twice in those periods.

"It's always good news and bad news," Ryan said. "I'm extremely happy with the way the defense got the football today. ... Up until this point, I was a little concerned because we hadn't been getting any."

Including today, the defense has recorded seven interceptions of the first-team offense in 11-on-11 team drills, and two interceptions of the second-team offense.

Sanchez was 9-for-13 in 11-on-11 team drills today, with a pair of interceptions by rookie safety Josh Bush and cornerback Antonio Cromartie. He was "sacked" three times, by Calvin Pace, Quinton Coples and Yeremiah Bell. In 7-on-7 passing drills, he was 6-of-11 with an interception by rookie linebacker Demario Davis.

Tebow was 4-for-9 in 11-on-11 drills today, with an interception by LB Garrett McIntyre and a "sack" by Jay Richardson. Tebow was 3-of-5 with an interception by CB Ellis Lankster.

Other notes from today's practice:

++ WR Stephen Hill (finger) took part in team drills a day after injuring his ring finger in practice Tuesday. He had the finger taped. He showed he was fine by catching a 35-yard pass from Tebow in the first period of team drills.

++ WR Santonio Holmes (ribs, back) was not on the practice field today because he was getting treatment indoors. NT Sione Po'uha (back) came out to the field for the first time in several days and was greeted enthusiastically by his defensive teammates.

WR Jeremy Kerley (hamstring) ran routes in receiver position drills and fielded punts but still sat out of team drills. WR Chaz Schilens (ankle), LB Ricky Sapp (ankle) were working with the rehab group. Lankster was, too, at the beginning of practice but returned to the field.

++ S LaRon Landry (Achilles/heel) was on a rest day today. Bush, a sixth-round pick, again worked with the first-team defense. He picked off Sanchez on a pass that went off the fingertips of TE Jeff Cumberland.

++ Cromartie took another rep on offense today, with the second-team unit. He caught a pass from Tebow, but it was called back because of a penalty on the play.

++ Sanchez hooked up with rookie WR Jordan White for a completion of about 45 yards. Ryan called it a "perfectly thrown ball."

++ There were loud cheers from the crowd during practice when Sanchez, Greg McElroy and Matt Simms each launched a football into a waiting trash can about 40 yards downfield, back to back to back. Tebow was working with the punt team at the time on the opposite field, in his personal protector role, so he did not try the throw.

++ Sanchez practiced holding for field goals today. Nick Folk was 4-for-5 with a miss from 53 yards. Josh Brown was 3-for-4.

I said it before and I'll say it again Sanchez is not the QB for Jet football
Tebow can be the Jet QB we need.

So we have two QB's who throw way too many int's. An offensive line that can't block. Wide receivers that can get open or go deep. TE's that can't block. Well at least we have the wildcat.

It seems like a lot of you are finally seeing the light. Both qbs stink. The only way we have a chance is to run the tebow offense and beat teams 17-14.

And go 8-8 and miss the playoffs. Your point?

That 8-8 ish worked in Denver because they didn't have NE in their division. It's not gonna cut it the East.

These guys have been practicing against each other for 2+ weeks. The D probably know the plays coming as well as the O players.

This all means nothing until the start of the season, but hey.. at least it gives fans something to biatch about.

Our defense is better than our offense, so it shouldnt be any surprise that they have the upper hand.

Then we have the pre-season, where we have vanilla game planning (at least in week 1), missing 2 of our top 3 WRs, and no 'wildcat' (which will be a decent chunk of our offense) and surprise! the offense looks pretty bad.

Hey.. I agree - things aren't pretty right now. But give the team a few games to show us how they stack up offensively before crying about twitter camp reports and week 1 preseason results.

So we're defenses of every team we played last year.
Yeah, yeah, preseason we understand, but when will things click with Sanchez at the helm? That is the concern.

Well, tebow didnt come in till the broncos were 1-4. So you would assume they get 10 or 11 wins with tebow if he started the whole year.

If we dont wait till its to late, our d is good enough to get 10 wins playing tebow ball. And 10 wins will get us into the playoffs. And anything can happen once your in.

Muddle with sanchez for the 1st 4 weeks, then youll see the 8-8 season you are talking about.

Umm, no. You can't assume he wins all of those games just because he didn't have the chance to lose them. That's retarded.

Not with the Bengals coming up in the world. The Wildcard spots will go to the North just like it did last year.

Kinda like how we had Mark as our starter in 2009 and 2010 and went all the way to the AFCCG?
Sorry bud, but Tebow isn't gonna save us. NE has proven that they have Teball figured out and that it can't work against them. Funnily enough, Buffalo showed the same exact thing when they beat him towards the end of the regular season when Tebow lost all of his last 3 games. Buffalo and NE have also improved their D's, so that makes it even more unlikely that Teball will work against them.

Obviously....... Tebow's great skill is always on display with that 2nd team. You can't really believe this..... or you've never watched NFL football.

8-5, before a bad slide, to finish 8-8..... 31-22, as a starter, overall....... yeah, there's NO CHANCE with Sanchez starting.

The sky is falling..... they threw practice interceptions...... there's no chance........ Tebow, please SAVE us.

Please stop calling yourselves Jets fans.

Sanchez SUCKED at the end of 2011. But did he suck the rest of 2011? Did he suck most of 2010? Nope.

Give the guy a chance this year with a new OC and personal in place.

And I guess Baltimore has proven that they have Sanchez figured out...

Why is it when Tebow plays bad, it's all on Tebow and yet when Mark plays badly it's the offensive line and wr's.

As bad as Tebow played, he threw no picks against the Pats in either game last year.

Sanchez threw 2 Picks in the 2nd game vs the Pats including a back breaking pick 6.

Also realize Sanchez threw for less than 200 yards in 8 games last season. Even Tebow (sucky passer and all) is more likely to gain more that 200 yards (running and passing) in a game (7 times out of 13 games).

Btw- I'm not even a Tebow fan, think both guys are flawed.
