Hayden Smith

Not that it's of any consequence to our season, but is this guy still on the roster or did we release him already? I didn't see him out there last night.

I also ask because this sites roster or depth chart haven't been updated in over a year.

Haven't seen him anywhere. It's funny because all offseason they were talking about him like he was going to be the next Antonio Gates.

because Hayden Smith is international the Jets are going to try to sneak him him on that international practice squad roster spot. They had a Mexican WR in that spot a couple year ago. If the NFL disagrees and says he's American, he's toast. But in that spot he could conceivably hide out for 2 or 3 seasons. In game 1 preseason it's clear he has no clue what he's doing at TE. but as a special teamer he might have potential.

No one said he was going to be the next Antonio Gates.

People simply compared their backgrounds and offered hope that Smith could take a similar path.

Who is the "they" you are talking about? Did you hear Tannenbaum or Rex call Hayden smith the next Antonio Gates? Plenty of teams are trying out guys like Hayden Smith on the hopes of catching lightning in a bottle. On other teams, if it doesn't work, no one cares. If it doesn't work on the Jets its a disaster and grounds for overhauling our front office.

Yes. 4th qtr game 1. He did a bad job blocking on one play. It was either a penalty or just didn't get the job done. Can't remember but I saw him out there
