Lance Armstrong?
I'm scanning the board trying to find the thread about Lance Armstrong, but as far as I can tell it doesn't look like there is one! I'm the first one who thought to make a topic about this? WTH?

I truly don't know what to say at this point. As a fan I've become so cynical that I feel like the the only ones not found guilty are the ones that haven't been caught yet. Part of me is ready to throw up his hands and say, "Fug it, let them take whatever they want and if it kills them then that's their choice." But then I think of my own kid who's a 10 year old baseball player and I surely don't want him taking PEDs.
What a mess. Last edited by BushyTheBeaver; 08-24-2012 at 12:13 AM. |

This doesn't mean anything. He's tired of fighting the same bullsh!t. I don't blame him. What does he have to prove? In my opinion he's taking the best PR move that he can take and making himself out to be the victim/martyr. It's smart, if he is guilty. And it's smart if he's not. He's going to win some people's favor with this "I can't fight this anymore" line.
That being said, he's never failed a test. They've been gunning for him using the the reputation of proven liars and cheaters as their evidence. Doesn't really hold up in a court of law, where he won those battles. He can't make the accusations go away and he's already lost in the court of public opinion because the damage has been done and everyone has their opinion on the subject. What's there to fight? Zero failed tests. A whole lot of political bs? Let people think what they want. He doesn't owe the USADA a damn thing and he doesn't have to waste anymore of his life trying to prove anything to anybody. Sounds like the guy is doing the right thing. |

Gonna have a hard time finding a winner in 2003:
1 - Armstrong 2 - Ulrich 3 - Vinokourov 4 - Hamilton All convicted for doping. |

He has been busted for doping - his samples from one of his first Tour wins was retested and they found some blood in his EPO sample. He's as guilty as they come, but then I think about 8 out of 10 riders in the top 10 from any year he won were on the gear. Righfully Drugstrong has been stripped of all his titles.
Fortunately the times in the tour have come down to around their pre-EPO levels - it's now basically a clean peleton. That's one thing those into the sport can be thankful to Drugstrong for - his career sparked the authorities into action and now any positive samples are representative of a precious few riders, not endemic doping as happened in the days when Drugstrong was riding that EPO wave all the way through to the podium in Paris. |

This was written in 2009 but explains the tour and EPO in layman's terms from a scientific standpoint - the evidence is really quite damning.
BTW - remember also Flo-Jo, Marion Jones etc went for years without being busted (Flo Jo her entire career) - they were apparently "clean", but no one is claiming now they weren't doped to the gills, which they were. Drugstrong has had his samples retested, and despite his protestations that the samples were "tampered with" or whatever (which is total bulls***) they have come back positive. The Drugstrong story was always too good to be true, and thus it has been proven. |

Will there still be an arbitration with testimony against an "empty chair"? My thought is that Armstrong does not want Hincapie's testimony to come out as that would be pretty damning evidence. He could dismiss the likes of Landis and others as cheating dbags.....Hincapie's was his close friend.

Any chance that the steroids is what caused his cancer? Could have been doing it for years.

I started following cycling seriously about 5 years ago.
There is NO ONE in the cycling world that doesn't believe he doped. People actually have a bigger problem with the lying and hiding behind Livestrong than with the doping itself. The power output he produced on some of the high climbs is well beyond what is possible for a clean rider. All the people who have matched or even come close to them have either already been caught or are universally assumed to be guilty, as Armstrong is. Most people also believe that this year's winner, Bradley Wiggins was doping. Even more people believe that his teammate Chris Froome (who would have won if not for team orders) was. Wiggins is a former time trial specialist (bigger, heavier riders that don't climb well) that managed to lose a lot of weight and learn to climb mountains while maintaining all of his old time trial speed. It was likely a team-wide thing, because that's how it almost always is in cycling. That's certainly the way it was with Armstrong's US Postal/Discovery teams. Too many team riders and doctors have been caught or confessed to what happened. Lance has just dug himself too deep of a hole to come clean now. He'll claim innocence and take it to the grave. Here in the States, where no one cares about or follows cycling, most people will believe him because they want to. That's good enough for Lance. |

When he went to the Doctors for his cancer the partner of a rider was there with him and she has testified that the Doctor said to him something like: "you have to tell me exactly what you have taken in terms of drugs because it will affect your treatment" etc etc. Drugstrong then verbally spelt out a list of doping substances as long as your arm including steriods, HGH, EPO etc. Whether they were one of the causes of his cancer remains unknown, but he was definitely doping at the time he got the disease.
