Playing Time: Jets vs Steelers

Smith is due to receive a roster bonus of $11.25 million on the first day of the league year. The entire 2013 year voids if he participates in 31 percent of the snaps. As a source with knowledge of the contract explained the deal to PFT, the 2013 year will be gone one way or another, and the franchise tag can’t be used on Smith next season.

It's common knowledge that the Jets will not pay Smith $11M next year, even if he plays in more than 31% of snaps, the Jets will release him after the season, if he plays well, the Jets will try to work out a deal. But I'm not sure why the quote matters there.

And god forbid we need him to start bc of injuries will his contract be a factor?

I think they should let him play and if that mean he becomes a UFA than so be it. There will not be a huge market. And I don't think we would sign him anyways b.c we are penny-pinching everywhere for Revis IMO.

The contract that needs to get looked at is the Harris contract. Dude got paid handsomely. I hope these past two games are a fluke. He was never fast but he he made impact plays for us. If he is going to be a JAG then we are going to have problems.

That is for next year.

Yikes. The Jets have to do something with Harris.

Im confused about Smith, he is listed as couting 12 million for next years cap, but will obviously not be on it.

Will we get any additional benefit from that chunk being cut?

Look at the "Dead Money". It is $0.

The last three columns are the most important ones.
