Jets have 'no plans' to demote Greene

STICKING WITH GREENE: After being held under 3.0 per carry for the second straight game, Shonn Greene is taking a lot of heat from fans and media. But hear this: The team has no plans to demote him, and he still will get the bulk of the carries this week against the 49ers.

When looking at a running back's per-carry average, it's important to remember how they're used. Powell (4.0) is a situational runner, so his average will be higher. Greene (2.8) is used in short yardage, goal line, the four-minute offense and he faced 10-man fronts on his two runs before the game-winning FG in OT.

Let's compare the backs on a level playing field. On first-and-10 runs against the Dolphins, Greene averaged 3.6 (seven carries for 25 yards) while Powell averaged 3.4 (five for 17). Yes, Greene has some poor reads, but the team, looking at the big picture, intends to remain patient.

Rex really wants to hitch his wagon to this turd? Having the worst starting runningback in the NFL just *might* be a problem for a ground and pound team. I don't care if it's Powell, McKnight, Grimes, or Tim freakin Tebow, but other guys should be getting some (or all) of Greene's carries.

The 1st & goal at the 1 when Greene tried to fly over the pile should be Powell's job for now on.

Greene is made of lead, has a vertical leap of about 2".

You would think with Green being a FA the Jets would want see what out other backs got so personnel decisions could be made during the off season.

good one.

rex can say whatever he wants on tuesday or wednesday, but if the jets offense sputters in the first quarter this sunday with greene looking slothlike, the fans will be booing greene AND rex off the field and i think they'll go to 'plan b' at that point.

The Jets have made a concerted effort to not "give information away" this season...let's just hope this is a part of that..

It never was. Just more of Rex' smoke and mirrors. No serious football coach makes that pronouncement with Greene as his team's featured RB.

They need to keep the bulk of his carries to toss sweeps.
He seems to be most successful when he's on the outside following a blocker or two.
Greene's very indecisive and slow between the tackles.

They are both underwhelming, Greene is worse. Here is the problem, with a decent back those 2 yard short yardage runs are off set with 12, 15, 20 yard runs the odd time so they end up with a decent average. Our backs can't make a run over 10 friggin yards. That is the reason for the lousy avg/carry.

"Good morning. Although we appreciate all which he has brought to the New York Jets' franchise, I am announcing that Rex Ryan has been relieved of his duties as our head coach. It is with great enthusiasm that I now introduce Bill Cowher as our new leader. Bill."
