Report: Bears To Release RB Bell

(WSCR) Back up running back Kahlil Bell’s time with the Bears may again be coming to an end.

According to a report from the Chicago Tribune, the Bears are expected to release Bell on Monday.

The Tribune reports injuries to receivers Alshon Jeffery and Earl Bennett have the Bears looking for additional help at the wide out position.

Bell was waived by the Bears earlier this season after the running back refused to take a pay cut from his $1.26 million salary. He was re-signed by the team on Sept. 15 after Matt Forte suffered an ankle injury.

Needed for depth with Powell and Knight both likely out.

Terminate the Terminator, sign Bell or another FA RB for depth.

As for Bell, he desired an opportunity to play elsewhere after being inactive for the Bears' last game at Jacksonville. Bell was surprised by the move and was even dressed to play before getting word of his status.

Bell played in two games after rejoining the team. He rushed for 32 yards on 12 carries and caught one pass for 11 yards.

Bell, who was waived by the Bears during the preseason after refusing to take a pay cut from his $1.26 million salary, rejoined the team Sept. 15 after Matt Forte suffered an ankle injury.

Bell is expected to be claimed off waivers, possibly by Green Bay. His salary now stands at $615,000, making him more attractive on the waiver wire.

2009 pre-draft report

Although Bell is a strong one-cut back with loads of potential, he had an injury-riddled and generally ineffective career with the Bruins. He played in only 25 games over the past three seasons, starting 14, because of a suspension (2006), torn right ACL (2007) and high ankle sprain (2008). As a senior, he averaged 2.8 yards per carry playing hurt behind a young, constantly rotating offensive line. His 10 catches for 65 yards did not showcase his talents, either. If his legs are healthy and his mind is right, teams running a zone-blocking scheme could find him to be a great bargain as a late pick or free agent.

Positives: Stout frame with good overall musculature. Powerful one-cut runner who, when healthy, can carry the load. Good initial quickness to get to and through the hole. Can lower his shoulder and run through tackles. Delivers the blow. Good stiff arm. Good leg drive for short-yardage situations, which could be even better with a lower pad level. Tough to bring down. Fights for extra yardage by keeping his legs churning and can break away after being apparently stopped. Runs with a chip on his shoulder. Can cut in space and gain yardage in chunks. Surprising balance for a big back. Soft hands out of the backfield. Coaches say he has matured into a team leader during his career.

Negatives: Bit of a bull in a china closet. Marginal vision. Too often runs into the backs of his own blockers because he lacks patience. Runs a bit upright and can get himself in trouble when running laterally and not getting square. Lacks breakaway speed. Some real intangible red flags; suspended in 2006 for reportedly fighting with a teammate, and had another brush with a teammate this past season. Has struggled with durability throughout his career. Torn right ACL among the injuries that require a medical check.

Im not positive but in addition to the terminator who is no proven even more worthless since lex hilliard is out producing anything connor has ever done, I believe we still are holding a spot with landolt???

Either way, Bell seems like a great insurance signing who at least has pro experience.

Bears waived RB Kahlil Bell.
According to the Chicago Tribune's Vaughn McClure, the Bears want a receiver to take Bell's roster spot. Bell played well down the stretch last season, but was active for just two of Chicago's first five games. With so many teams in need of running backs, it's possible he won't slip through waivers unclaimed.

More likely, we would just claim him off waivers if interested as his salary is low. Either way, we probably know by tomorrow if any team - including the Jets - has claimed him.

We need bodies at the RB position right now.

Doesn't matter who..... The Injury Bug is kicking the Jets Collective Asses worse than anything the Pats ever did.

Only time will tell, but even if we pick him off waivers he's a great addition to us right now considering the prospective injuries we're facing next week.

Plus if he has some snaps to show what he can do next week, it would be a great opportunity to analyze him as a player in our system.

Bell Has been released by the Bears

In 2012, Bell became an unrestricted free agent, and the Bears extended a qualifying offer to him, which he accepted on April 14, 2012.[5] The contract was worth one-year and $1.26 million. He was waived on August 23, 2012 when he refused to have his contract reduced to $700,000.[6] He was re-signed by the Bears on September 15, 2012 after starting running back Matt Forte went down with an injury.[7] Bell was later waived on October 15.[8]

The Jets actually need another RB. Powell and McKnight will likely both be out against the Patriots.

Sounds a bit like Shonn Greene.

I agree.

Why did we sign him off a PS, which mandates that he is on our active roster for at least 4 weeks, if we aren't going to play him; especially now that McKnight and Powell might be out.

I find it hard to imagine we would have sacrificed a roster spot for 4 weeks simply to gain some intel over the texans.... But, with tanny and rex running the show, you never know.
