Our defense was worse than previous years even before Revis's injury. It's not like we went from top 5 to 12th after he got hurt.

In 2012, 34 cornerbacks were chosen; in 2011, 39 corners were picked; in 2010, 33 cornerbacks; in 2009, 36 corners came off the board. In previous drafts, either linebacker or wide receiver was the most popular choice, because teams have three to four starters at those positions. Now, for four straight drafts, it's been cornerbacks.

Umm, no. Did you bother to read the article that you linked to ? If you had, you would have seen this:

But today's nickel and dime looks involve many downs on which five, six or even seven defensive backs play at once, which in turn requires lots of corners on the roster. Most NFL teams now keep nine or 10 defensive backs on the roster, up from a typical eight defensive backs a generation ago. Most of the additions are cornerbacks, who either line up as corners or cover slot receivers.

It's not that CB is a "premium" position, it's that teams now need more of them, especially given the rise of the use of 4 and 5 WR sets.

We play more safeties than we do corners.. You will see a lot of Landry, bell, smith, bush, Allen out there tho. None of which are corners ..

We had revis for one full game this year remember? The jets were forcing turnovers left and right and completely dominated the bills. The defensive scheme is completely different without him there

CB is becoming more of a premium position... Just look at the contracts this year that carr, webb, and finnegan got. None of those players are even close to revis. 2 CB's drafted in the top 10 this year. Cover corners are the most important players on D next to pass rushers

Finnegan and Carr just inked deals that pay $10 mil per year. 2 freaking years ago, Revis inked a deal that pays him $11.5 mil per year, and according to Revis, that was just supposed to be a "band aid" contract, meaning, that it was supposed to get reworked for an even higher amount in the last 2 years, even though the contract was heavily front loaded.

No one is saying that CB isn't an important position. What is being said is that while it is an important position, there are still limits as to what percent of a teams salary cap should go to a CB, even if he is the best in the NFL.

I'd actually question that. It was the Bills, you don't have to force turnovers from them as they will hand the ball over regardless All you have to do is dare them to throw, and Harvard boy will happily throw a slew of INTs.
