Rolondon McClain - LB

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...ne-in-oakland/

Officially, Rolando McClain is still a member of the Oakland Raiders. But after he missed practice today for reasons that weren’t fully explained, McClain wrote on Facebook that he’s done in Oakland.

McClain later deleted his Facebook updates, but for a time on Wednesday afternoon he had posted messages including “Officially no longer an Oakland Raider!!” and “I’d like to be anywhere besides here.”

It is not correct for McClain to say that he is officially no longer a Raider — he hasn’t been placed on waivers, which is what the Raiders would have to do if they wanted to get rid of him. It is possible that someone on the Raiders’ coaching staff or in the front office told McClain they’re getting rid of him, although the team has made no public statements indicating such a move, and McClain’s agent Pat Dye told Mike Garafolo of USA Today, “I have not been notified of any change in his status.”

McClain has been a starter in Oakland since the Raiders took him with the eighth overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft. Off the field, McClain recently got some good news when gun charges were dropped against him. On the field, McClain’s poor play has been one of the reasons the Raiders have one of the worst defenses in the NFL.

Great college player. I remember him having a good game against the Jets a few years ago.

They where talking about trading him at the beginning of the year. After his 2nd or 3rd arrest Oakland all but said they wanted to dump his contract.

McClain needs a change of scenery bad, he's played poorly, but it's the entire environment out there, people think the Jets are a circus? Go be a Raider fan for 2 weeks.

If I'm Tanny I look into a trade for this player asap, it would immediately upgrade the LB position, that is Scott's replacement right there. Davis can play inside and outside, they could focus at OLB in the off-season.

I'd offer a 6th rounder.

I honestly think we end up swapping cap trash with Oakland this off season. They seriously can't cut him this year they do not have the cap. They only had like 1 mil in cap space in July.

Off-season plan?

If McClain were released, he'd never make it to us in the waiver process.

I don't know. This guy took a gun and shot it near someone's head. He's a headcase and we don't exactly have a locker room with enough veteran leadership that could rein in his bad behavior. His play on the field hasn't been inspiring either.

I don't have a problem with taking a look but wouldn't we be stuck his contract if he's claimed?

Aren't we top 10 in the waiver claims process? He could make it down to us. I'd take him. Get Scott out of here and like prior posters said, put Davis in Thomas's spot.

How much worse could he be than Bart Scott?

Do players that are released outright go through the waiver claims process ?

Yuppers, we are dead last in the waiver wire rankings. He won't get to us. It's a shame as I would haev liked to see him here.
