JETS HEAD COACH 'STUNNED' BY DISMAL PASS RUSH PERFORMANCE BY DEFENSE.
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Rex Ryan was confident in training camp that he was the best defensive coordinator in the game. Not only that, but he beat his chest while defiantly announcing his 2012 defensive unit as the 'best group he's coached' since becoming a head coach. After the New England Patriots put up 49 points on the Jets Thanksgiving evening, dropping them to the 19th-ranked defense in the NFL, Ryan, losing six of his last eight, is 'stunned' by the recent play of his defense -- particularly the... When looking at the bigger picture of pass rushing, however, the Jets individually still have trouble treading water. A Pro Football Focus study on Pass Rushing Productivity[ Sacks (1) + Hits (.75) + Hurries (.75) / # of pass rushing attempts x 100] indicates that only rookie DE Quinton Coples has been the most productive Jets pass rusher, scoring a 7.4 PRP after getting 16 QB pressures over 168 pass rushing snaps.
He ranked tied for tenth among inside pass rushers. Even though Im not a big fan of these statistics but it proves what you can see on the field. Coples is always doing well when given enough playing time... |

He does press conferences... He's obligated. And for you people sitting there and taking shots, he gets asked these questions.
Someone asks him today if he's willing to concede that his defense won't be top 5 and he didn't want to do that. But for all of the smart people who actually watched him, you could tell he pretty much did. He doesn't want it to get out to his players that he's willing to accept less from them. |

Is he going to find some meaningless stat the Jets finish in the Top 5 and then proclaim them a Top 5 defense.
Points Yardage 3rd downs Thats all that matters. |

No problem with him wanting to be top 5 or expecting to be but without a shadow of a doubt he has grossly over estimated the quality of some parts of the defense. They had a massive weakness at safety and it took them a couple of years of grief to realize the talent was not there.
OLB's are a huge weakness. At least one inside backer is a huge weakness. Sometimes position coach or coordinator geniuses seem to think that scheme can cover up for poor players. It just isn't the case. |

He still doesn't get it. But why should he? The whole organization is a laughing stock, again. |

Rex and the Jets always try to do things in bunches. They never got the memo about one play at a time, one game at a time. |

good article, but I hate when they say a corner shuts down 1/2 the field, he doesn't he takes the #1 receiver (if a wr) out of the game 90% of the time.
When Sanders was running around back there most teams sent out 3 players at most into patterns, now a days, teams send 5 no one player takes more than one guy. |

Pass rush aside, the Jets can shore up the run D by having Moore play defense.
Line him up facing ass-backwards to the LOS. He's a run stopper! |

The Giants, Eagles and Dolphins had no problem embarrassing the JETS and their D last year when it was highly ranked. Rex is no longer credible. |

This guy is a moron. All he cares about are stats. Always has to quote Sanchez's QB rating after each game. Do any other HCs quote or care about these meaningless stats.

All we need now is for SAR to make an appearance to point out how big a Moron that Rex is and this thread will be complete.

Agree 1000%, he doesn't get it. Tough having a coach so detached from reality.
