Raiders reportedly in talks with Jon Gruden

Dan Bernstein@dan_bernstein
@Hub_Arkush of @ProFootballWkly just told @Boers_Bernstein that Jon Gruden and the #Raiders are in talks to bring him back to Oakland.

Didn't see that one coming.

The annual coaching change of the Mark Davis error in Oakland.

His dad did everything he could do in life to keep his son OUT of the football operations

Then he passed away

I wouldn't want J Gruden. First his offense is boring and second he has always preferred older veterans, to developing young Kids. His inability to develop young kids, at some point your going to be left with a very old roster and in very bad cap shape. Third can his offense win in today's game.

Jmo That rumor was probably started by his agent. Reggie Mckenzie philosophy and J Gruden philosophy are total opposites. Can't see how any of that is true.

Gruden is not that good of a coach...

Secondly, would anyone want a job with the Raiders when they've only given Allen 1 year? Even McKenzie at GM?

That's laughable that they would turn over their head coach that quickly.

There's NO reason to delay the process. Start Geno Smith.

Jon loved it in Oakland and the fans still love him there as well. They would have won the Super Bowl in 2002 if Al Davis hadn't traded him to Tampa Bay. It seems to me that Davis' kids are trying to right some of their fathers wrongs by bringing Gruden back to Oakland. It would be a very intelligent decision, especially after seeing Dennis Allen bring the Raiders down a notch instead of moving them in the right direction that they seemed to be going at the end of 2011.

Yeah...this seems right.

On MNF he walked the sidelines and then walked to the crowds and was so beloved.

They would have been in a SB against the Rams if not for a bad fumble call in the snow.

Then, the next year, his team went to the SB and happened to run into Gruden, who knew his offense and beat them.

If Oakland is bringing back Gruden, maybe there is hope that we can lure Mangini back to the Jets!!

Dennis Allen has been a disaster. He just looks overmatched.

They should not have dumped Jackson. This team was actually decent last year with Jackson.

Assinine move by rookie GM McKenzie.

McKenzie is an example as to why analysts are full of crap and the NFL is full of crony Bull****.

Similar to how Polian is viewed as some sort of genius for continually losing conference championships despite having hall of fame skill players in both Buffalo and Indy.

There is no way that a Gruden or a Cowher or a Dungy (if the latter two are even thinking of returning to the sidelines) would ever come to work for Woody Johnson.

Money talks, talk radio follows. You seem to have it backwards.

Reggie Mckenzie strength as GM is building through the draft and making personnel decisions. ( that where Ron Wolf, and etc who recommended said was his strength) That where he going to pay dividends down the road. ( have to give him a couple years to see if that is the case)
This is his first time he ever had to hire a head coach in his life. His mistake there was giving a guy with no head coaching experience on any level , one year coordinator experience , total control to hire his whole staff.

That first mistake caused his second mistake to occur. Here is what I'm talking about. Raiders had limited draft picks and cap problems in 2012. Dennis Allen by hiring Greg Knapp as HIs offense coordinator radically changed a offense that wasn't the problem in 2011. You took your core players on offense Darren MCfadden LT Jared Veldheer and C S Wisniewski and make them less effective in this different system. The defense was the problem and needed a total overhaul.
By changing both system on both sides of the ball + limited resources- cap and draft picks) = trying to do too much too soon.
The offense should have been left alone and all the limited resources should have went toward the defense. Gradually over time slowly implementing changes to the offense that you wanted to eventually become.

JMO Dennis Allen will be back in 2013. Reggie MCkenzie and Dennis Allen will both pick the assistant coaches (most of these coaches won't be back) Reggie learned his lesson there.

BTw JMO Mark Davis is nothing like his father. He doesn't have the same love for football that the old man had. He a business man first. He probably going to be looking to sell the team at some point. He needs this team to start winning games and a new stadium to get his price.
Might see J Gruden making that happen faster.
Again he isn't his father and will let Reggie Mckenzie make that decision. Dennis allen will be back, but most of his staff won't be.
