Would it be OK for NYDN to out a star Jets player who's gay?

I'll be curious (not bi-curious) to see what people think. Where's the line? Would it be ok to follow a closeted player and snap a picture of him kissing a guy?

-Yes, because news outlets cover "off the field" activities of teams, it would be acceptable to out a closeted player.

-No, a player's personal life shouldn't be fair game for the news media.

For serious doe, exposing someone's sexuality isn't cool. If someone is gay and doesn't feel comfortable with the entire world knowing, what right is it of yours to out them? That's what we in the business call "being a dick".

If you're trying to compare this to what's happened today it's just not in the same ballpark.

Rex knowingly put a video of him and his wife online, publicly.

Rex knowingly put a tattoo of his naked wife wearing only a Jersey of the QB for whom he's responsible for playing time on his arm.

One is someone's private life the other is something putting that private life in the public realm.

I respect your view, but I can't agree.

The videos should have nothing to do with the decision of the NYDN to send a reporter to stalk a coach and his wife and take pictures of him.

The guy was on vacation with his family. It has nothing to do with football. It has nothing to do with sports.

I'm sure a gay player would feel the same way, but I'm not seeing how following the guy to a club and then taking a picture with him in a compromising position would be any different than this.

If so, hypothetically speaking, would it be ok for the Boston Herald to stalk Gronk wherever he goes in world because he tweeted a pic of himself with some cheap whore? So for the rest of his life he's got no privacy because he made a poor judgment about a photo?

Well, that would be a different situation. That, I suppose, would be "ok". But, if you had discovered that a player was gay via different means (such as listening in/stumbling upon a conversation) then it wouldn't be ok. I suppose it depends on the circumstances.
