Korn Ferry's last GM search

I started researching Seattle's GM search when Korn Ferry was assisting them to see if there were any similarities to the Jets current search. Some candidates (Khan and Ross) were interviewed for both. Also, it seemed that Korn Ferry considered many different candidates (as seems to be the case with the Jets).

Wonder where he was in he interview process, early interview or later. If he was earlier, it could show that the extensive search is encouraged by Korn and Ferry and not so much an implication of the earlier candidates.

Schneider was hired 10 days after the first interviews. They interviewed between 6-10 candidates from what I've seen, a couple of the, like Marc Ross, Schenider, and Floyd Reece multiple times.

In all seriousness, this is probably the best post since we started the GM search.

Great find, and thanks for posting that.

Looks like Korn Ferry really takes their time and sticks with the process regardless of the media attention.

The other thing I think is good for us, is that they went with the younger, less "heralded" option in John Schnieder, and its worked great for seattle. Their last draft looks like an absolutel home run.

Lets home they find the same for us.

No matter who is ultimately hired, he'll be nothing more than a figure head. We all know that we already have our de facto GM. His name is Rex Ryan. He's calling the shots.

May the Lord have mercy on Jets fans' souls.

I agree this is a good post. it's early, but it looks like they got a great one in Seattle. Let's hope they don't turn into Corn and Peanuts when finding the jets guy

If only any of our idiot beat writers could put a little effort into their work and develop a real story about the GM search instead of just trying to take twitter shots at the organization. Thanks for this good work!

Thanks. I am not really discouraged by how things are going in the GM search. It looks like they (including Woody) want to make an educated decision by interviewing as many candidates as possible and not making any rash decisions. I am speculating, but maybe they brought in Caldwell for a second interview because they knew he was about to take the Jags job.

I applaud them for interviewing so many people. It is in the fan's best interests. At the end of the day, Gamble may still be our man and I would feel better knowing he beat out 9 other candidates rather than two others.

good freaking point. all I am reading is about how the "names keep piling up" or "add another name to the ongoing search" BS. none of them have jumped into what this Korn Ferry group has done. Give it a few, they all have accounts on here so a story on the search group should be filed soon

From what I've seen Rex has more of a problem with being deferential to others in the organization than being some power hungry guy that wants to call all the shots. He under performs mostly because he refuses to use the full extent of his authority as a HC. Why would he have designs on the power and authority of the GM when he doesn't even feel the need to exercise his power and authority as HC?

+1.
While you may be able to just hire a guy who has already been a GM on the basis of one (or even no) interview, it is because he has a body of work that speaks to his ability to do the job. But almost all of the guys the Jets are looking at have never been a GM.

Have any of the people who question the process ever been responsible for hiring someone to fill a professional position? This is happening exactly as it should. First, interview as many as possible -- you'll often find that the best candidates on paper may not be as good as you thought compared to the others. Second, bring the best back for a second interview. You can not fill an important position based on one interview. Third, contact as many people as possible who have dealt with the candidate in their professional experience to complete the evaluation. This is not limited to those who work alongside the person, you want to find people who are not obliged to simply say he is a great guy. If he dealt with Agents, ask the Agents. If he dealt with Pepsi, ask the people at Pepsi. And always ask the low level staff about him. They know, and will willingly tell you, what his real reputation in the office is i.e. a douche, pretender, etc...

Source please. This is JI, not the Daily News, we will not tolerate the proliferation of bald factual claims without reference to real source.

Great, great post.

The Jets are looking for an executive for their organization. Companies don't fill such positions in a week, and after interviewing less than a handful of people.

Believe it or not, keeping Rex allows them to take their time in this process as well. Other teams that are filling GM spots also need to fill coaching positions, so there's a little more urgency to get a GM in place.

I know everyone's getting antsy, but it is a good thing that they're being thorough in their search for a GM.

Except for the fact that:

1) Woody has EXPRESSLY stated the new GM has final say on personnel; and

2) When they hired Schneider Pete Carrol had already been named coach.

So lets cut out the incessant rage when you don't seem to have any grasp on the facts.
