Good read....thanks for posting....he did get it right when he spoke of the superbwol....it's been ages but the Jets are NOT one of the teams that never won a superbowl. I like the direction we are going in thus far.

This is why I enjoy this board!
That was a great informative read. Based on this info, I think the Jets need to figure out a way to get Matt Flynn. Coming from that Packers offense, he would have this offense down in camp. This offense looks to fit Powell to a tee! He's got wiggle, quickness, has proven to be a good blocker & he's got good hands. If the Jets could get the Stanford back in the draft they would be set. I still see McKnight as a backup RB & kick returner. Maybe the Jets should try to resign Keller if his skills fit this offense, with Keller & Cumberland the Jets would not need to waste a higher draft pick on another TE, except maybe a late pick on a blocking TE. This might be the 1st good OC the Jets have had in a long time. |

Few things of note here....
The detailed analysis of the run game probably explains why we didnt need an experienced OLine coach, from a philosophical standpoint. MM has a run game philosophy that he wants to use and thats what we are going with. Teaching it is his job and the oline coaches, as opposed to an oline coach like callahan implementing his philosophy. I think this is a great offense for powell. By opening day he should be ready to handle 20 plus carries in an NFL offense, is quick enough to make the cuts and open field runs and is an above average pass catcher and blocker....perfect opening day starter. We should be able to find his backup in the draft and also use mckinght. If he gets his head out of his a$$ Holmes should thrive in this offense. I worry about his alligator arms in traffic but he is an excellent double move WR and should excel running a slant that he turns upfield for a deep chance. Same goes for kerley....he isnt as fast but he should be able to play a role similar to desean. I think Dbrick should also do well in a zone heavy run scheme....but we do need guards obviously. Anything can happen with this staff being 1 and done, but when you look at the draft a player like barret jones who is smaller, but smart and athletic would be a great guard for this offense IMO over a player like larry warford who is more of a mauler. Lastly, and i dont know how we do it, but flynn should be perfect for this offense. Even though his sample size is small, this is very similar to the offense he ran in GB and his last preseason game of the year his completion % was over 75% (yea it was preseason, we just dont have anything else to go on). He is a decent athlete who can move in the pocket and run the sprint draws etc and probably an occaisonal zone read play |

Thanks, interesting perspective from the Eagles
This is key if contract forces Jets to keep the QB; Quote:

Would you rather have an Oline coach come in with his own way of doing things who would be forced to adapt, or a new coach already in the fold, who knows the players and can learn the new system? |

Turn on the Jets is one of the better Jets blogs out there. They have very informative writers who cut out the BS. They breakdown game film as well.....

I think Eagle's point is that if they kept the entrenched OL coach, he would be more apt to run his own scheme or at least do things his way. Now, b/c Devlin is new, he'll be more receptive to things that MM wants to implement. Who the **** knows what goes on behind the scenes, TBH. I'm sure, if he so desired, MM could have brought in a guy he's worked with before - he's been around a while. So, if he liked Devlin enough to keep him, that's good enough for me. At some point, us fans can criticize every little move but we don't have the first clue as to whether a position coach is a good hire. |

Here is my in depth review on Morningwig's offense.
If Sanchez or any other crappy player is the qb, his offense will stink. If we get a good player in here to play qb, his offense will be good. |

Save it for one of the other threads where we pile on Sanchez. No need to bring that stuff into this.

Exactly correct. You could limit Sanchez's reads to one and he would still chuck it high and wide.
