We are 3 over the hill player cuts away from being almost 10 million under.. And thats before we drop guys like tebow and eric smith ect.. And restructure Sanchez maybe even Holmes and/or Harris..

The cap situation isnt no where as bad as it seems .

This has been discussed ad nauseum here. This analysis looks at the structure of the team as it stands today and does not factor the impact of likely cuts, restructures or extensions that provide cap relief. We easily change the financial situation once we deal with Pace, Scott and Smith. Plus, it doesn’t consider the number of projected starts vs. back-ups and role players under contract.

Colts with 42 million to spend, shows how eating a bunch of dead money in one year can really set you up for future space.

How much of that $10 million will go to Landry alone?

The highest paid safey in the NFL is right around 6 mill a yr..

And i highly doubt anyone is making Landry the highest paid Safety

We have to cut 3 players but we have to replace 3 players AND we have to resign Landry AND we have to fill other offensive needs in FA/Draft.

I'd say we're pretty well screwed with a capital SCREW GUN right now.

Maybe, MAYBE, if we can move Revis and drop his salary plus pick up one reliable starter that might help a little, but that's a very big maybe.

Scotts replacement is on the team . Jason smith could be back at much cheaper rate if not backup lineman are not highly paid guys..Pace more than likely will be replaced through the draft .considering the top 10 is filled Pass rushing OLB..

And if someone is willing to pay landry more yr than what a franchise tag would cost . By all means they deserve to have him .

Chicken littles should read Jason's nyjetscap article.

The "woe is me" Jets/Mets attitude is the worst, and contributes a lot towards the perception of the Jets as a laughingstock.

Cap hell is when you have to cut productive players. We are not in that situation.

Yes, we can get under the cap with cutting a lot of dead weight but we also have a roster that is woefully thin in talent. It is not like we can go out and spend money on some top FA to help bolster the roster.

I wouldn't say we are in cap hell but for 2013 we do not have much flexibility. Which I think most fans are OK with b.c if we take our hits this year then in 2014 we will have a boatload of room to make some nice improvements. If we could combine that with good drafts in 2013 and 2014 we will be right back in the thick of things.

Cutting Revis adds 3 Million to the cap number. No savings whatsoever. This is all old news and has been gone over nonstop here on the forums for the past month. Where have you been?

If there has ever been a team that can cut more money and lose less production then what the Jets can do with Jason Smith, please someone tell us.

That article is unsubstaitiated idiocy....no other way to describe it.

"Cap Casulties" are players like chris canty.

Jason Smith, Eric Smith, and Bart Scott are salary cap gifts

We need to follow the Indy model. DO NOT push cap hits into future years and just deal with all the dead money now. Hope you hit in the draft and catch lighting in a bottle. Don't really spend anything in free agency. Plan for the future. Cut Sanchez, Scott, Thomas, Smith, Smith, Pace, etc....go super young and start building a long term winner.

I'm pretty sure the Redskins are in the worst shape. What with being restricted to $105M instead of $121M next year. (Not including whatever their rollover is)

True, but while the Jets do not have to cut anyone that is of great value because of the cap, they dont really have the ability to go out and replace those players with a great amount of resources. So while I agree things are not as dire as some say, they are not exactly great either.

For many teams in true SC hell, it takes 2 or 3 years to dig out. We can do it in one season. Yes, it will be an austerity program and we won't be signing much new talent this year so don't expect 10-6 or better, but by 2014 we'll be in pretty good shape and able to be back in contention. That's the price we have to pay for the way Tannenbaum managed the roster the past five years. Sucks, but the league has seen worse.
