Unhappy RIP Clive Burr

Dead today after a long battle with MS. Just a spectacular drummer, shame he wasn't able to continue his career with Iron Maiden.

Anyone who isn't a fan of IM, just jump ahead to about 2:14 to hear his solo:

Played on the first 3 Maiden records, and arguably the best, Number of the Beast.

My fave from Killers

I am a HUGE maiden fan....especially classic maiden.

Very sad to see him go but I have to say......he was a very very poor drummer, imo.

Watch some live stuff, he was super sloppy. Maybe the ms was already kicking in but I dont know why everyone is saying he was awesome.

well either way, rip and thanks for the good times

I think an apology may be in order here.

I watched some live stuff. I even attended a concert or two. Guy was a very, very good drummer. Know who else had sloppy technique? Keith Moon. He was pretty good, too.

More Clive:

Burr was yer standard, capable bar-band thrasher, a good match for the band's early punk-metal sound. But, Piece of Mind is the best Maiden, and required a more technically proficient, nuanced player than the dearly departed. RIP

Do we have to create a new thread for every no-name musician on a second-rate hair band every time one dies?

Can't we have one thread to cover them all since it seems one dies every week? Make it a sticky. "Dead Rock Musicians You Never Heard Of".

He was good at what he did. Every drummer has a style of their own. He played his drums with his elbows instead of his wrists....a hard hitter that drove the music and matched up great with Harris's galloping bass lines.

The comings and goings of our head coach is very germane to this website.

Hearing that Peter Tork's stepbrother who once played washboard on a cut recorded by the Charlie Daniels Band but never released has passed away isn't newsworthy.
