Why is Rex still the Head Coach?

First off, this isnt a thread knocking Rex or his coaching ability.

I just find it strange, now that its obvious we are rebuilding, that we kept him for one more year?

If youre going to start fresh why not top to bottom?

Just weird.

Giants fans were begging to have Coughlin fired half way through the 2007 season, the management stuck with Coughlin. How'd that turn out?

Fans don't know much about how to run an organization, what fans are good is whining and moaning and "calling for peoples heads!!!!!"

It's obvious we are rebuilding? Every team rebuilds in the offseason. The SB winning Ravens have had as much player turnover as us.

This rebuilding mantra is so odd. If it was a complete top to bottom blowup you'd see guys like mangold and brick being traded. Guys like wilkerson and recent picks as well.

We're letting crap players walk, and deciding who is worth paying in the future.

But to Jets fans everything has to be so dramatic.

Best guess is that Woody is opposed to paying 2 HC salaries in a year he knows is going to be a rebuilding/transition year (at best).

comparing the jets to a team that had a franchise QB and were far from rebuilding is just lazy.

Im not complaining, i actually like Rex and want it to work out for him. I simply just find it strange thats all.

whos being dramatic here? Your the one overreacting its just a simple question.

usually when you lose as many players on both sides of the ball as it looks like we are, without really trying to resign them, that seems to look like we are accepting mediocrity for the better of the team in the long run which i have no problem with. Thats my definition of rebuilding.

Hopefully Idzik is secretly consulting with Darrell Bevell on these personnel moves and asking what players he wants for the 2014 season.

Coughlin also had a very successful HC resume.

He took an expansion team to 2 AFCCG's, including one during the teams 2nd year in existance. He was also Coach of the Year in 1996.

Wrecks has no such resume.

Maybe if you scanned the board for half a second you would have found the other countless threads discussing the HC? And could have read the hundreds of pages on the subject instead of just trying to create another pointless thread?

Why dont you try a what is Idzik doing thread next

Part of me thinks that Idzik is giving Rex a chance to prove his "defensive guru" status this year.

It is easy to call defense when the "I" of your defense is Ngata, Lewis and Reed. With Suggs coming off the edge.

Lets see how he does with a group of young players and mid to low level FAs. He will have to prove his worth this year. Can he develop the young players and field a respectable defense. If he doesn't then he is proven to just be a blowhard button pusher who does well when the buttons are Pro Bowlers.

Because hes a dammed good coach. He's arguably been the most successful coach in the history of the franchise. With Rex coaching the team, we'll ALWAYS be competitive. He's going to field a top 10 D regardless of who the players are.

Two reasons:

1) Rex is still a great defensive coach, and there's always a chance he does a great job this year. (If the team wins 8+ games and exceeds all expectations, one assumes he'll be back.)

2) If the Jets perform as expected, the new coach will inherit a dramatically improved cap situation and a high pick that could, presumably, be a franchise QB or a game-changing defensive player like Clowney. If you're a highly coveted HC candidate, the Jets job looks a lot better next year than it does this year.

I agree with this, and i honestly hope it does work out for Rex.

I was just stating that I cant think of another franchise that allowed their head coach to stay during a situation like ours.

With that said, I think the players love him as a coach, and hopefully he can make it work this year.
