The people who accosted the solders as they returned from Vietnam were a pack of classless thugs.

The sad fact of the matter is that the soldiers returning from Vietnam were themselves victims of a flawed foriegn policy. Much like the soldiers who today are languishing in the multi-billion dollar Iraqi sand trap.
