I figured out why the trade was made. Steinbrenner was tired of the who is the best SS in baseball arguements. AROD is playing 3B. Next year Nomar at 2B, Tejada in LF.

Once George realizes that SF has a decent SS he will sign him to and make him a reliever. He will take every SS until the position is devoid of talent.

At that time it will be clear. DJ is the best SS in MLB.

From a stat situation, no Derek is not the best SS in Baseball. Others hit more HR's, get more RBI's, hit for a higher AVG, or whatever. However, he has been the starting SS, and team leader, of a Yankee team that has 6 World Series appearances, and 4 Championships in 8 seasons. So he must e doing something right.

Buy the two better SS in the AL and jeter gets the starting nod in the AllStar game for the next 10 years as NYers stuff the ballott boxes - BRILLIANT!!!!

With A-Rod at 3B and Nomar at 2B - their phenominal range will cover up Jeter's deficiencies and his fielding average will undoubtedly rise to a Ozzie like .980 and he will win some gold gloves - BRILLIANT!!!!

No. DJ is just in the right place and the right time. If you listen to the Sox fans talk then you would realize that a cardboard cutout of Jeter (placed in the field and the batters box) would win as many rings. Although they agree his power #'s would suffer slightly.
