NHL Free Agent Market to Boast Big Names

Thu Jul 1, 0:44 AM

By The Associated Press

- Eric Lindros joined the free-agent market on Wednesday when the New York Rangers declined to pick up the $10.25 million option in the oft-injured center's contract.

When the hockey shopping season opens Thursday, the 31-year-old Lindros will be free to sign with any club. It is unlikely that Lindros will return to the Rangers, with whom he played the past three seasons after being traded by Philadelphia.

Clubs had until midnight EDT Wednesday to make qualifying offers to restricted free agents to keep their rights and prevent them from becoming unrestricted. Normally players need to be 31 before becoming unrestricted, but any not given qualifying offers are free to sign anywhere.

Eric Lindros should retire-he can not ever be the player he first came into the league as and that he is the only way he can be effective-nasty

Whomever wants him is nuts. I cannot believe his agent (a/k/a DADDY) is Angry that the Blewshirts are cuttin' him loose. He's an expensive HEADACHE.....pun intended.

That was a "High" blow if you know what I mean about Lindros.
He definitely should join his brother in retirement though.
You know that some team with financial resources will be looking to sign him- the owners complain about finances
but then they can not help themselves!

Lindros should not be offered anything except the NHL minimum, and an incentive laden deal based upon games played and porduction. He shouldn't get paid for Zombie-like appearances on the ice.

NHH is in a tough situation-they do not have revenue that can come in from television and marketing like baseball or football to support the teams
They expanded or relocated to cities that I really have to question like Carolina. It really looks like the owners are serious this time-hopefully thay will work out a compromise-I need my hockey fix come October thru May-lately April being a Ranger fan!

I would never claim that my guy Bob Clarke is very smart. Or were you referring to me?

Can anyone else believe some of the names who are free agents?!! That's some list!

I see GGG The Flyers signed Turner Stevensen away from the Devils along with Mike Knuble-trying to toughen up again.

If you can't win games, win the fights!!! Gotta love that mentality.

If they do indeed play this season, my F'ers will not win the Atlantic.

Stevenson really didn't do much fighting. He has good energy if he can stay on the ice. He spent too much time on the DL for us.
