Payton Goes to Celtics As Lakers Rebuild

By JIMMY GOLEN, AP Sports Writer

BOSTON - The Los Angeles Lakers resumed their makeover on Friday by trading Gary Payton and Rick Fox to the Boston Celtics for Chucky Atkins, Marcus Banks and Chris Mihm.

The Celtics also received a conditional first-round draft pick and cash in the deal and sent a second-round pick to the Western Conference champions

Awful for the Celtics.

Banks & Mihm for GP? Maybe 2 years ago.

Good for the Celts once GP and Fox leave they will finally have some cap space to work with. And a possible No.1 pick in 2008 if LA sucks.

Maybe, but right now this deal is horrible for the Celts. It helps the lakers, and gets Payton away from Kobe.

Wow that would be a major coup for Boston, I was actually hoping the Suns would wait til next year so the Knicks could trade them there expiring contracts for him.

We were all wrong about Payton. He was just out of it last year. I thought he was done, but he still has some life in them sneakers.
