Debateable. Yes, they LOOKED like a hair band, with big hair and makeup, but musically, I'd separate them from the bands the original poster mentioned.

I feel the same way (I'm originally from Bklyn myself)

What about Guns N Roses? Me thinks not.

Hairband. Without a doubt. GNR was a borderline hairband, too.

Saw the Crue on Jimmy Kimmel, man, Mick Mars looked terrible. He couldnt move his head. I heard he had some kind of hip surgery. The way he looked, hters no way he lasts the tour.

From what I read it's actually tendons and ligaments fusing to his spine. Sounds like pretty nasty stuff. I knew he was older than the other members but did you know this dude is 52 years old? He looks every bit of it too. Damn near looks like Alice Cooper.

I love heavy metal. Seen damn near everyone-Black Sabbath, AC/DC, BOC, GNR, Metallica.

Crue sucks. Ohter than the soap opera aspect I'm missing why anyone cares.
Looks like they desperately need sunlight, fresh air and fresh produce. People are actually paying to watch and listen to this junk? Feel the same way about Velvet Revolver.

Remember how fossilized and crappy rock got in the lat 70s and early 80s? This is even worse. It's over Johnny. OVER!

Maybe because its a lot more entertaining than all these "My daddy hates me, my mommy left me, my dog molests me, I wanna cut myself" whiny identitkit non-metal crap that infests the planet these days, Korn and all the crud they've spawned....

I saw the Crue open for Ozzy (talk about theatrics) back in '84 and they were great, however as this thread indicates, at some point they gave in to the hairband sound and lost their edge.

If I had never seen them before, I might be intrigued to go, but I prefer my memory of them from 20 yrs ago.

I agree, music does suck these days. you have these annoying rappers (rap is repetitive, all about cars, women and money, there aren't any coolios anymore)

rock is pathetic. lame ass bands like lincoln park with their homo lead singer who sounds like a girl.

metal SUCKS. velvet revolver blows, weiland is trash, slash is still awesome, the rest suck.

but motley crue looks really bad, vince neil needs to lose some weight, and who is that friggen old man? christ, I hate has beens

Whoa whoa whoa. You were running well then tripped and fell....right at the Velvet Revolver comments. That is one of the good bands around right now. It's a collaboration of what was good about music. You have everyone from G N' R minus Axle then you have Scott Weiland who was the lead singer of STP. Two awesome bands and when you mix them they are still pretty damn good. Motley Crue might look old but since when does it matter what a band looks like? All I care about is how they sound and if they can still belt it out, more power to them.

Velvet Revolver is a very good band. As you said they took the best of GnR and STP to make a real Rock Band.

Motley Crue probably Jumped the Shark after Dr. Feelgood. You might not like them but they put on a heel of a show. Seeing the scantily clad women was worth the price of admission itself.

Can't comment on Crue cos' I don't know their stuff, but will say that Velvet Revolver put out quite a good record this year. Fun to listen to.

I disagree with anybody that says music sucks these days. There's lots of great stuff being recored. My fav is progressive rock aka "Prog"

If anyone cares, here's a link to a poll for the greatest prog CD of 2004.
Some very good stuff here.
