For both the White House and Giuliani. How exactly does the White House miss that he has likely mob connections, has been making huge profits from companies that do dealings with the Dept. of Homeland Security, and did a terrible job while he was in Iraq. The Nanny story is nothing, it's just a cover story for the much bigger and nastier skeletons in Kerik's closet.

And the man in charge of the vetting process? Alberto Torture Gonzalez himself, our furture Attorney General. Man these next 4 years should be so much fun.

LOL on the nanny, some posters on this site are proud enough to tell world they readily hire illegal aliens to do work for them, despite the fact it's illegal...and there could be tax-evasion issues---why would Kerik be embarrased? :D

Better not mention the Atty General appointee, Tom The Nader Fan, his alter-ego and his pal might all hit the roof.....

This is Guiliani's achilles heel-he values loyalty over qualifications every time. And he sold Bush on Kerik. Figures that that's the last time that Bush Administration goes for that.

Kerik, a high school dropout, was Guiliani's volunteer chauffeuer during his campaigns for mayor. And Kerik never rose above the rank of 3rd grade detective, failing the seargeants' exam several times. Which doesn't preclude the fact that he was a good street cop. But at the same time Guiliani elevated him to commissioner, NYPD implemented college credit requirements for both being hired and promoted that Kerik himself couldn't have passed on either count. And he promoted him ahead of numerous more qualified candidates anyway. He did much the same with Fire Commissioner Von Essen, another low level fireman who had been the head of the union, and amazingly switched sides in the middle of contract negotiations. And Guiliani had to have seen Kerik's confeidential background check from the Department of Investigation, which would have revealed his 3 marriages, and affair while he was at Corrections which caused a complaint to be filed by a supervisor who reprimanded his gilrfriend, and probably Kerik's consorting and gifts from New Jersey trucking executives(which if you have a functioning brain should have caused massive alarms). But as to Kerik and VOn Essen both, Guiliani still values their loyalty, despite the clear fact that neither should have been promoted. But that's Guiliani-rules for thee, not me. Pretty funny that has US Attorney, he arrested numerous people on Wall Street for selling stock in much more savory arrangements than Kerik has just done. Most of those cases were later dismissed, and several traders won civil suits vs. the government for hat overrreaching and obnoxious behavior. Also bizarre that Guilinai now wants to start a trading firm; he'll be hardpressed to find many partners after that.

And know this-before Guiliani runs for president, his personal life makes Bill Clinton look boring by comparison-draft-dodging, marrying his cousin, a dad who was a convicted felon, and plenty of examples like Kerik of promoting loyalty over qulification and exiling anyone who would oppose him. He did a good job after 9/11, but it was the job almost anyone would have to have done. What choice did he have-he wasn't going to curl up into the fetal position. And before 9/11, he was about to retire to obscurity and embarrassment from his very public divorce. The bullying vindictive person hasn't changed one bit. And there has been more than a few naseating moments when he has wrapped himself in 9/11 for his own purposes.
