I'm done with school forever. I got a JD and an MSF after I graduated from college. Felt like I was in school forever....I'm done!
I've thought about the CFA, but don't have the energy. I am a quant analyst for my firm and don't really need the CFA, though it's always good to have. I just don't feel like tying up another three years of my life, you know? I've thought about teaching a lot. I am considering a career change, but not until my mid forties or so. I'd like to earn a lot now, and perhaps at age 50 look into teaching high school mathematics and economics. I think I'd enjoy that and be good at it....
Cool....I didn't know you went the law route. Were you aspiring to go in the direction of "Corporate Legal Counsel" post grad? We've both talked about potential volunteer work in this thread. Maybe you should look into Regents & SAT tutoring in your spare time. You'd do great with the kids, and it'll give you a feel for the teaching environment. That's a win-win across the board. |

That's a win-win across the board.
Thanks Terry. I've actually done SAT teaching, though I got paid for it. I worked for Kaplan. I enjoyed it immensely. But tutoring would be cool too. You're right, it would be a win-win. My only other teaching experience was teaching CCD to seventh graders when I was a senior in high school. (It's a Catholic program for religious education for public school kids) I liked that too...even though I'm not exactly an enthusiastic Catholic! I don't know what I was thinking with law. My father is a lawyer, my mother is a lawyer, one of my brothers, my grandfather, many uncles. My father was a corporate lawyer, my mom works for the State of NJ. My dad was actually GC of Citibank for 10 years - a tough act to follow! It was the thing to do, I guess - become a lawyer. It's what my dad certainly wanted, anyway. I was a History undergrad and then went into law school. I always just assumed I was going to be a lawyer when I was little. I thought about going into a private practice, or starting my own business...but I wanted the MSF degree to learn the language of business and the mathematics behind it all. I fell in love with finance and economics at that time when I was in schoool and went the route I went afterwards. |
Basically.....
I was a little hot under the collar after my experience in K.C. Couple that with some of the comments I read and I was chafed. My apologies, I should've handled my responses better than I did.
Its cool - I just couldn't figure out what I posted that set you off. |
