Mets sign Jose Reyes to four year deal

    4/22.5 million with a 5th year option.

Omar is the man, now they need to take care of Wright.

    Not really

This contract isn't undervalued for Reyes.

    1) It's the biggest contract in MLB history for a shorstop who hasn't reached his arbitration years.

    2) It's significantly larger than a similar contract Grady Sizemore received (6 years-23.5 million) , Rich Harden (4 years- 9 million), and Jhonny Peralta (5-years, 13 million)

    3) It's a trade-off for both sides. Reyes probably will make more over his arbitration years than he would otherwise. He sacrifices two years of free agency for the money right now. A no-brainer for someone who has a bit of a history with injuries. Seeing Duaner Sanchez lose at least his season probably helped his decision too.

yeah he was under control for a while anyways, so basically he gets 4 years at 6 mil, instead of 2 years at 400k and then free agency.

    David Wright contract?

How much more expensive is it going to be to lock up David Wright for comprable years?

I think Wright stands to make more, however Reyes is arguably more valuable. It is very difficult to find a player that has all the unique talents Reyes combines. His ceilling is so high. The combination of defense, speed, and his development as a hitter makes him one of the best young players in the game.

How great is it that we have both of them!

Wright is an RBI guy who hits .300. They will always make more than the table setters, regardless of how unique Reyes is.

If Reyes got an average of $6m, I would guess (provided he keeps up the stellar play) that his deal will average $8m+ over the same time.
