    Met game thread...

...I usually move baseball threads, however in light of the playoffs (and the Mets pending elimination ) you guys can use this thread today to discuss the game. I'll move other threads opened, so the board doesn't get cluttered with baseball talk.

Last I heard (about an hour ago), it still wasn't confirmed, but he would be the only logical choice at this point.

Cool. I think any of our starters should have a short leash anyways. Go get 'em, Willie. Look for me in the lodge boxes down the left field line.

Hopefully....I think this is a blessing in disguise. I think Maine is our BEST pitcher. Prior to Pedro's injury, Willie was rumored to be considering leaving him off the postseason roster.

With Pedro gone, Maine got invited to the postseason. But he was still only being considered as a "last resort" pitcher. Now El Duque suffers some strange fluky injury.

It seems like fate is intervening to give this kid a shot. Much like it did to give Tom Brady a shot back in 2001. Who knows....Maybe he'll turn out to be this generation's John Smoltz, meaning one heck of a clutch pitcher. When you look at this Mets team, it looks like a club that should compete for World Series Titles year after year. I can easily see Maine developing into the ace of the staff. This is his time. This is when the world finds out who John Maine really is.

He certainly does some weird exercises so that he can keep in shape and get ready for a game, prior to a game, like the one where he tumbles and rolls the length of the outfield.

Loved reading this. I want to believe it and I can conceive it. I hope the Mets get a quick lead, Shea Stadium goes hogwild, and John Maine rises to the occasion.

Hey, I'm too pumped for the game to read anything past 8 words. It'll take a heavy dose of hops and barley to cure the AAD.
