Orlando Hernandez said he felt strong enough to pitch in the World Series after a bullpen session on Sunday in St. Louis. He threw for about 10-15 minutes before the Mets' 12-5 win over the Cardinals, tying the series at two games apiece.
"If the team has a chance to be in the next round, I'll be in," Hernandez told reporters.
Hernandez tore his right calf while running in the outfield before the Mets' series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and it was questionable he would be able to pitch at all in the playoffs.
"[There was] no problem with the leg," Hernandez said. "I only threw from the stretch. I'm pretty happy. I feel good. I can come back."
Asked if he was upset he was left off the NLCS roster, he said "No. I'm taking it day to day."
Thank goodness. I don't understand why people though Oliver Perez was good. I guess because we won even though his ERA for the game was almost 9.
He did what we needed him to do. He kept us in the game and pitched 5.2 innings. Gave our bullpen a needed respite. I don't mind the 2 solo shots he gave up in the 6th. We were up big and he needed to throw strikes, and he did. Much better than walking guys. When the game was close and in the balance, he pitched well.
Also, if we make it to the Series, I have a feeling that Duque will be taking Trax's spot, not Ollie's. Trax was awful and just looked like he didn't want to be there.
Id much rather have the kid battle than give the ball to Trax again.

He had one good year and thats it. He's terrible. Any pitcher can have good days. They said Victor Zambrano had good stuff.
Of course hes only had 1 good year, the kid is young and this is only his 4th year..He could easily find his stuff and turn it around next season or soon after...Zombrano never was known to have nasty stuff..Good stuff maybe but not nasty...Perez can be nasty when hes on..Prob. is hes not on much...
perez actually has potential no-hit stuff. problem is he loses the strike zone and it rattles him enough so that he sometimes can't find it again. next thing you know he's grooving pitches and then he can get shelled. if peterson can get him to harness his stuff he's got a world of potential. he's young and there is hope for him. zambrano had some stuff with nasty movement. but he was never able to find his control. peterson thought he could fix him and he was obviously wrong. zambrano didn't even come up as a pitcher if i remember correctly.
