    damn liberal networks

In an Ironic Twist of Events, NBC and The CW Television Network Refuse to Air Ads for Documentary Focusing on Freedom of Speech

NBC Claims that the Network “Cannot Accept These Spots as They are Disparaging to President Bush”

The CW Television Network that the Network Does “Not have Appropriate Programming in which to Schedule this Spot”

NBC and The CW Television Network have taken a stand against the Dixie’s Chicks new documentary “Shut Up & Sing” a behind-the-scenes look at the incredible political and media fallout that occurred in 2003 after the Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines said that she was "ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas." “Shut Up & Sing” opens in theaters in NY and Los Angeles on Friday and in theaters nationwide on November 10th.

NBC responded to a clearance report submitted by the Weinstein Company’s media agency saying that the network “cannot accept these spots as they are disparaging to President Bush.”

The CW Television Network responded that it does “not have appropriate programming in which to schedule this spot.”

Famed litigator David Boies stated, “It is disappointing and troubling that NBC and The CW would refuse to accept an otherwise appropriate ad merely because it is critical of President Bush."

Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company stated, “It’s a sad commentary about the level of fear in our society that a movie about a group of courageous entertainers who were blacklisted for exercising their right of free speech is now itself being blacklisted by corporate America. The idea that anyone should be penalized for criticizing the president is sad and profoundly un-American.”

The Weinstein Company is exploring taking legal action.

Whats sad is that the Dixie Chicks are trying to make another buck off of the PUBLIC exercising THEIR RIGHT to not buy, listen, play or have any other support for what they said.

Absolutely, they have the right to say what they want... the rest of the world has a right to not hear it.

Now they try to make another veiled attempt at being "politically minded" when the truth is that they are just trying to make a buck.

If they were running for office, this would not have been a problem. They don't have a right to equal airtime.

Yeah... just shut up and sing. Shut up and tell jokes. Shut up and act.

    Two points:

--Will you EVER site your source? Clearly you got this from someplace, so please, give us the link, and let us look ourselves thanks.

--Second, this is NOT a "freedom of speech" issue. Both NBC and CW are corporate owned, free to decide what content they wish to air and for whatever reasons they wish. Same as any other network, newspaper or other entertainment source. It's only a freedom of speech issue if the Govt. limits speech, which is not the case here.

    Two more points then:

--Drudge is unrelaible at best, and a complete farse at worst. Take anything he says, in anyones favor, with a big grain of salt. Hence why I asked for your source.

--Second, the complaint about the Big 3 Networks is that their NEWS-based coverage is Liberal-leaning. Not their "entertainment" policies and products. In my time I have seen the networks bar or promote both leftish and rightish based entertainment programming. But their News coverage has been pretty consitently leftish-leaning (not extreme by any reach, just leaning IMO).

    Just shut up.

Can't stand celeb's trying to influence their audiences. The backlash is good shows you can't allways say what you think durring an event not intended to be political and not expect an unfavorable reaction. Screw them.
