FINALLY!! A conservative who 'GETS' it

If you're a Republican concerned about national security who still (somehow) believes the Republicans are better at it, your president won't change. But he will be forced out of denial and compelled to face reality. The Democrats, in a divided government, will also have to take responsibility for the hard choices involved in wartime. So divided government is win-win right now.

Vote Democratic next Tuesday, or if you just can't, abstain. For the country's sake - and for the soul of conservatism.

We have a president prepared to lie through his teeth about the central issue of our time. He is dishonoring his office and shirking his responsibility. In peacetime, this is disgrace enough. In wartime, it is unforgivable," Sullivan wrote on his popular blog, The Daily Dish.

    About Andrew Sullivan

Andrew Sullivan is a journalist, blogger, and former editor of The New Republic. His six year-old blog, The Daily Dish, is one of the Internet's most linked-to blogs and is featured on TIME.com.

Sullivan began his career at The New Republic in 1986 as an intern. He served as associate editor and deputy editor before becoming editor from 1991 to 1996. His tenure at the magazine was often turbulent, controversial and pioneering.

While there he expanded into new editorial territories covering topics such as the future of hip-hop, same-sex marriage and affirmative action in the newsroom. Under Sullivan, the magazine campaigned for early intervention in Bosnia, for homosexual equality (Sullivan is openly gay), and against affirmative action. In his final year as editor of the magazine, he was named Adweek's 1996 Editor of the Year.

Sullivan has worked as contributing writer and columnist for The New York Times Magazine, The New York Times Book Review and the Sunday Times of London. He

graduated from Oxford University with a B.A. in modern history. He received his master's in public administration and a Ph.D. in political science from Harvard University.

His latest book is "The Conservative Soul: How We Lost It, How to Get It Back."

You vote for the best candidate on the ballot, irregardless of his/her party. I don't understand why people think the solution for sh!tty and corrupt Republican leadership is elected a Democrat and vice versa. Whenever we vote for the lesser of two evils we always end up with less.

The problem is not p!ss-poor leadership, but a less-than 50% apathetic voter turnout. Ultimately, we're the ones who put sh!t into congress and the house... do we honestly think special interests groups throwing millions of dollars at these turds will turn them into fairy dust?

What's even stupider is Cut n Run Conservatives abstaining or voting for Dems
in a "principled" attempt to punish or reform the GOP.

Agnus Dei and Shia flagellate themselves with whips but we know they are wack-
why Conservatives would do that is just plumb loco too

Sullivan has been on Bill Maher often. He's bright, articulate, witty - very conservative and does not like Bush.

Sorry FJ. He attacks Bush and the Republicans for not being faithful to the ideals of Conservatism as expressed by Goldwater and Reagan.

Do you ever have anything nice to say about someone who thinks differently than you? Also what does the fact that his is gay or HIV+ have to do with him not being a Conservative. Seems like lots of Conservatives are gay. He just happens to be out of the closet.

    Thats a "red" herring.
No true conservative espouses his weirdo views
No true conservative would vote for Kerry or a liberal Democrat before Bush
No true conservative would be against any of our current wars
Just because a lib thinks Sullivan's a conservative doesnt mean he is
And I think any gay man who contracted HIV in the last 20 years is
an out & out dope considering the knowledge and danger
And no, I hate the politics of people who place enemy combatants
and illegal aliens anywheres near Americans
Endanger my life and livelihood and you're dead to me

FJ there are Conservatives who might think that you are a weirdo and some of thinks that you say go against Conservative principles.

You seem to hate a lot of people. Not everything in the world is black and white. There are different ways that people who want the same goals go about getting there.

You should learn some tolerance. People might disagree with you but still want a strong and safe America.

True political conservatism has nothing to do with gay marriage.

True political conservatism has nothing to do with abortion.

True political conservatism has nothing to do with government expansion and the creation of huge new bureaucracies.

True political conservatism has nothing to do with limiting scientific research.

True political conservatism is all about small government.

True political conservatism is all about independent entreprneurial spirit.

True political conservatism is all about staying out of people's private lives and personal decisions.

True political conservatism is all about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Like most neocons, you have confused social conservatism and flag waving idiocy with political conservatism.

As a true Republican, I WANT MY ****ING PARTY BACK!!!! :steamin:

You contradicted 1/2 of what you said.
Conservatives arent for having "standards" of equality and diversity forced onto them by Legislation or The Judiciary.
They are live and let live but thats not good enough for some-
we have a 14th Amendment guaranteeing Equal Protection
    under the law, for all
but somehow some people or concepts are more equal than others.

Conservatives are for protecting all of us-but some somehow some think
    their rights are violated.

If flag-waving offends you, too bad. Go live under another flag.

Sorry...the Gay-Aborting-Play With Embryos But Insist The Government Pay For It-Pick Peoples Pockets to Give Your Hard Earned Tax Dollars to Illegal Aliens-Assign Rights of US Citizens to our Enemies-UN/Global World View
    Party doesnt exist yet.

You can found that party if you like.

    Oh wait....thats the Democrats.

    You sound like a Democrat.

If you're a Democrat, go vote Democrat, whatever

Stop waving the flag and screaming, "we're number one" and start acting like number one. Like great Republican Teddy Roosevelt once said, "walk softly and carry a big stick."

A Democrat? Hardly. No, I was a Republican until morons like you hijacked my party.

According to FJ anybody to the left of Atilla the Hun is an assh*le liberal. He has zero tolerance for anybody who disagrees with him. G-d forbid you don't like what we're doing in Iraq and you are Benedict Arnold.

    Sort of makes him irrelevant!

No one here is more irrelevant than you, guy.
The only thing Sullivan "gets" is a delivery up the tuchus.
And for that we should applaud like trained seals?
