    OT: Large Weiners

    I picked up some oversized hot dogs at the grocery store and am ready to cook them for dinner. My friend is telling me that I should 'score' them. Take a knife and make small cuts in the hot dog to let it cook faster and be crunchier.

    I always thought that you were not supposed to cut into the meat before you cooked it so that the flavor and juices were seared in.

    Can someone tell me if it's okay to cut the weiners?

    A plump weiner, especially one whose skin is on the verge of breaking, is in need of some assistance to relieve the pressure, no? Wouldn't some cutting help in that regard, or would you recommend another treatment?

    I hope not. I have a hungry family and just need to know how to cook the hot dogs. I wish I would have bought smaller ones already. They're easier to handle.

    Concerning the meat aspect, you never want to cut meat or press on meat with a spatula unless you enjoy dried out meat with no juice.

    As for the other aspect, I would not want mine cut. Just slapped around a bit.

    You dont cut wieners or sausage or braut or any type of linked meat in the form of a wiener, you let out all the juice.

    Thank you. Enough with the jokers already. It makes sense; if you have a hard, uncut weiner, you don't want the juice to shoot out before the wife's ready to eat it.
