Michael Moore is a ''Sicko''
9 Out Of Ten Americans Disagree With Michael Moore’s Portrayal Of American Health Care

Michael Van Winkle, writing at the American Thinker, takes a look at some numbers and concludes that while Michael Moore’s SiCKO is an effective bit of propaganda, the people depicted in the film just aren’t representative of Americans as a whole

If we take the film’s subjects as representative of the whole, Americans are routinely forced to make nightmarish health decisions, choosing, for instance, between a middle finger that costs $60K to reattach and a ring finger that costs only $12K

Even worse, according to Moore, most of us regularly risk death at the hands of dastardly HMOs, too greedy to pony up for expensive life-saving surgeries. So desperate are we for quality health care, many of us are willing to cross the border into Canada or flee to
    France

But Moore never explains to the audience why we should take his subjects and their stories as representative of America. Though he claims SiCKO is about the 250 million Americans with health insurance, he admits the handful of stories featured in it were chosen from about 13,000 “horror stories” emailed to him in response to a posting on his web site

Of course, if 13,000 people were randomly selected and scientifically polled they could be considered representative. But when such a poll is taken, it simply doesn’t show the picture Moore wants us to see. According to an ABC poll last fall, 89 percent of Americans are satisfied with the quality of their health coverage. That means nine out of ten people have experiences substantially different than those featured in SiCKO

Moore would no doubt argue that it is easy to be satisfied when you are not sick. His film is about people with serious illnesses and how they are treated by the system. But again, scientific polling calls Moore a liar. The same ABC poll found that among people with serious illnesses the level of satisfaction with the system was even higher: 90 percent say they are “satisfied,” while 57 percent are “very satisfied.”

    Read the whole thing

It’s often said that the best way to lie is to take a little bit of the truth and wrap it in falsehood. That’s exactly what Michael Moore does. He takes a few small truths, wraps them in emotional cloth, and then pretends as though those problems are much larger than they really are and can only be solved by the solutions he suggests

Which is pretty effective, even if it is total baloney
It's amazing that this fat slob gets away with making slanderous propaganda movies all the time.

Of course the people depicted in the movie are not representitive of America as a whole. But what happened to them ACTUALLY happened. It may not happen to everybody...but it does happen.

    OK

Again. WTF does this have to do with the people depicted in the movie. Are the people portrayed in his movie actors who are totally making up their bad experience with hospitals?

People shouldn't let this fat bastard get under their skin. You don't want anybody to see his movie? Don't talk about it. You don't want people to believe his lies? Just say the movie sucks and give it two thumbs down. When people constantly assault the character of an individual, it usually backfires (see 60 minutes and GWB ANG service)...

I think his point is that Moore has a habit of taking the experiences of a few people and making generalized "factual" statements about things. Not a nice thing to do, even for a canadian :D

I find these 'facts' a little hard to believe.

according to everything I have heard only 70 to 80 % of Americans are covered by any health care. so this "9 Out Of Ten Americans" seems a little off to me.

The biggest problem right now is health care and your job are tied together.

its amazing that you believe this article. I love this, at this site the oil companies are not a major influence on our government, big pharmaceutical companies do not greatly contribute to our health care issues, tax payer's money goes where it needs to be as does the lottery and toll money. And many health care companies are not corrupt.

Some of you live in an absolute dream world. I love this country just like many of you. But, for me, love is not blind. You love your parents, but are you honest enough to understand the mistakes that they have made?

Moore's movie does slant too much in regards to making other countries health care systems seem Utopian. But for the love of God, do you really believe this 9 out of 10 garbage from this garbage article? His message about the America's health care system being broken and corrupt is 100% accurate!!!!

How about th segment about Nixon and the Watergate tape? There is no spin involved on that one as it is all recorded on his Watergate tapes and then his silly speech the next day.

Stop drinking the koolaid, for the love of God?

I was talking about the P-funk with reverence dude. I just find it amazing that a band that has such a huge influence on modern music never had a hit album. the same can be said about Zep sadly.

As for the Jewish Elvis, he's still very popular among the heteros, as for the part of Fire Island that has barn dances, that's more Manilow country I think..

there was a time when Michael Moore made entertaining movies that were relatively un-partisan - and more about how big business takes advantage of the little guy - for example Roger and me.

yes along the way he's become a hack - that being said -

i believe sicko is a throw back to that Roger and me type of movie.

regardless of what you read from 'free-market' think groups most people will admit the health care system in America has some serious problems. there are tremendous inequalities between the haves and have nots, and I don't know what the answer is exactly (neither does moore) but healthcare shouldn't be about insurance companies screwing people to save cash.

companies by the droves stopped selling health insurance in most states years ago- they wouldn't have made such a decision if it was a profitable market to be in...

agreed to a certain extent but i blame 2 factors - 1 US culture reflects society - if people don't feel good about the world and our place in it the music will suffer. no one wants to party when the headlines are so depresing every day. 2- the corporate structure where walmart is the worlds largest retailer of CDs and the same company who owns the record label owns the concert venues and the radio stations has led to a sitaution where instead of 'finding' real talent, they 'create' fake talent and it's never as good.

Moore is an idiot, his movies are spectacularly stupid and only effective because his audience is largely both vain and ignorant.

Anyone who takes him seriously does not deserve respect. Moore is Ann Coulter or Sean Hannity with a camera.

The problems in our healthcare system are because of the government. The answer is less government, not more. Just like our education system.

The funniest part is touting Canadian health care as good. The only good thing about it is that it is "free" (paid in taxes). If we went to a socialist health care system our taxes would go up dramatically but our pay wouldn't be offset by the amount your company currently pays for you heath care it is lose-lose for all but 10% of the country. The 10% number comes from Moore himself when he was being interviewed as the number of Americans without health insurance. Of course he didn't give any demographics to support those numbers or to say why they don't have health insurance.
Does anyone here know an American that went to Canada for health care? I don't yet I know 3 Canadians that came here for heath care. One of which was told he needed a bypass and was put on the Canadian waiting list. It took him 3 months to get that bypass. Is this the health care system we are looking for? All of the poor in America qualify for Medicaid so who are the 10% that don't have health care insurance? My guess is people that are too lazy/proud to apply for Medicaid, college age kids that could care less (as I didn't at that age, I figured it was worth a roll of the dice) or the wealthy who figure that they will cover it on their own. For example the company SAS doesn't give their employees a health care plan. They have on site doctors for normal visits for all family members and the company pays for all specialist and outside needs out of their pocket because they feel is is better economically and is better for employees to have on site health care. Just saying 10% don't have something doesn't show they aren't getting or affording health care.

yeah, powerful in the sense that they attempt to tell doctors what tests to order and not order, "they" referring to some person in a shirt and tie who has as much medical knowledge as Web MD permots, and who determines whether a test is "cost effective," at times with disregard to the patient's well being.

As for trial lawyers, don't even get me started... they are the bane of a medical existence.

Amy winehouse is good, but I appreciate what you are saying... record companies determine what the general public will like by force feeding it. Hence lill' John.

Might I suggest an album? Army of Anyone, self titled. STP and the guy from filter, really good stuff.

I think, if a guy's approach to making his political points on film includes sandbagging and embarrassing a man obviously suffering from age related dimentia (Charlton Heston, eventually diagnosed with Alzheimers), not much more needs to be said about who or what he is.

I would never pay to see his movies.
