Another F UP for Brian Cashman .. he pays Dotel to sit in the trainers room all of 2006 while he recovers from TJ surgery, and doesn't even have the good sense to demand a 2007 option in return {or no dice}, or at least re-sign the guy for 2007 when he figures to be healthy

If you're not doing either of the two, what's the sense of throwing George Steinbrenner's money away on what amounted to a one year charity contribution?

He basically paid Dotel's rehab expenses and gave him a million or so for his pocket to boot, just so he could get Dotel ready to pitch in 2007 ... for somebody else

    WTF!!

Dotel has a 1.522 WHIP and a 3.91 ERA right now.

And the Braves gave up quite a bit to that kind of performance.

Fine, but what was the point of paying for all of Dotel's rehab expenses and giving him a million plus for his pocket in 2006 as well?

Was there a point to that I'm missing, seeing as he took all that rehab to KC in the off-season?

Well...he was a good reliever for a while...maybe they thought he'd show something.

Instead he rehabbed for free, pitched 10 crap innings...and the Yankees got rid of him.

Considering it's the Yankees...2 million is chump change to bank on a formerly good pitcher coming back from TJ and pitching well. He recovered, and has sucked ever since.
