INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Indianapolis Colts re-signed quarterback Josh Betts and receiver Trent Shelton to their eight-man practice squad today, even as they continued searching for a veteran running back to add to the active roster.
Betts spent all of last season on the practice squad since the Colts had only two active quarterbacks - Super Bowl MVP Peyton Manning and backup Jim Sorgi.
Shelton was 1 of the team's final cuts and had been praised over the last two weeks of the preseason by coach Tony Dungy.
The Colts also re-signed tight end Gijon Robinson and guards Joe Lobdell and Sam Wilder, all of whom were cut yesterday when Indy pared its roster to the mandatory limit of 53. Receiver Aaron Brown and guard Travis Leitko were re-signed after being cut last week by the Colts.
